The Last Ride Episode 3 Takeaways

Episode III of the Last Ride with The Undertaker is really the first one to look back deep into his career. Something fans like myself have been starving for since this documentary began two weeks ago. Before we get to that however, it picks up after a successful return at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.

The win over John Cena allowed Taker to obtain redemption after a WrestleMania 30 loss to Brock Lesnar, and then a subpar performance the prior year in Orlando against Roman Reigns.

The 34 clash with Cena was a squash match and he came out of it looking good. It should have been the perfect way to go out, but sadly, it wasn’t as Taker decided to keep going.

At first it seemed like a decent move to keep going. He wrestled and looked good in wins over Rusev in Saudi Arabia, and then HHH in Australia.

He was happy to do both shows, looked good at both including a last appearance at MSG as well. It was great to hear The Undertaker spoke about the importance of each venue.

The next 20-25 minutes were the best of this documentary by far as it goes back and details his relationship with Kane, HHH and Shawn Michaels. Not everything was always as rosy with them as it is now.

A very special bond all four of them have now formed. So much so, that it convinces Shawn Michaels to come out of retirement for one last dream match between the four in Saudia Arabia.

DX vs The Brothers of Destruction looked good on paper but turned out to be a major disaster in the ring. Kane lost his mask and looked slow.

HHH tore his pec muscles moments in, and both Shawn and The Undertaker looked rusty. It was a total disaster. What should have been The Undertakers last match turned into one giant, “what if?”

As HBK explains, a pro wrestler needs to have clarity to know when his career is over and after that match, The Undertaker was as confused as ever.

What happens next is anyone’s guess as he wouldn’t appear at WrestleMania 35, and his next match with Goldberg was the worst of his career.
