AEW Dynamite Hits & Misses From A Wild Night

After an excellent PPV on Saturday night with Double or Nothing, it was interesting to see how AEW would follow it up with Dynamite Wednesday Night.  Some things hit, and others missed badly and left me scratching my head. Let’s take a closer look at the hits and misses of the strange evening.

The Inner Circle Pep Rally

It entertained like the Inner Circle always does.  It was funny, it flowed nicely and it got each guy over.  Sadly, it got strange and made little to no sense the second Mike Tyson showed up with random MMA fighters.

A legend in Vitor Belfort and one of the best in the business Henry Cujedo are both nice to have around, but why they hanging around with a boxer who hasn’t been relevant or taken serious in 15 years is beyond me.

Also confusing is why Chris Jericho would be holding onto a grudge from 10 years ago himself with Tyson.  Especially when you factor in it happened during a WWE segment that no ones talks about or even remembers.

The whole thing came across clunky and just plain silly.  All signs points to this continuing, and with as talented as Jericho is, he could pull it off.  But for now, it was a miss.

The Revolution Shows Up in the opening Six Man Tag Match

Apparently, there is a feud between The Young Bucks and The Revolution?  Don’t ask me to explain it but I’m positive I want to see it! This absolutely was a hit as The Revolution will now go by FTR (formerly The Revolution) .  They are a great team that was under used in WWE and I’m happy they are now somewhere they will be used right and excel. This was a sure-fire hit.

Cody gives a speech saying he will be a fighting TNT Champion.

This was emotional and excellent on many levels. It was genuine and you could tell Cody was talking from the heart.  We learned that he wasn’t the first choice of Tony Khan and how that is nothing new to him.

He mentioned his mom as well and it was just the kind of interview that pumps you up.  It motivates you and makes Cody a natural face.  This may have been one of the biggest hits in AEW history.

The Battle Royal for a shot at the TNT Championship

What happened next however, was a total miss and left me very irritated. A battle royal was held between MJF, Wardlow, Luther, Peter Avalon, Brandon Cutler, Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, Marko Stunt, Sonny Kiss, Colt Cabana, Billy Gunn, Christopher Daniels, and Orange Cassidy to decide the number one contender for the TNT Championship.

The idea was good, but the fact that you would leave out names such as Darby Allen, Brodie Lee, Lance Archer, Dustin Rhodes, Shawn Spears and several others for guys like Luther, Peter Avalon, Brandon Cutler and Sonny Kiss was terrible.

And why they are stuck on pushing Jungle Boy Jack Perry to the moon also makes no sense to me.  To have him go over MJF and Wardlow to win after losing to MJF days prior just leaves me shaking my head.

I would watch 10 PAC matches before one Jungle Boy Jack Perry match.  I understand PAC is in England until quarantine ends, but c’mon already with this. It was cool to see Billy Gunn who is clearly taking his “Flintstone Vitamins” as of late.  Still, this was a miss.

Brian Cage defeated Lee Johnson

This was a miss as I do not understand why you would have this man you’re trying to try to introduce your fans too as an unstoppable monster crush a no namer.

You want fans to take him seriously, have him run though ranked opponents. I don’t like what they are doing here, and having Taz try to punk out Jon Moxley after the match did nothing for me.

Dr. Britt Baker DMD revealed a conspiracy theory

Everything this woman does of late is pure gold! Extremely funny and great in the ring as well.  Her 5 plus minute explanation of why the entire women’s division is against her was perfect.  If Adam Cole jumps ship to AEW, I cannot even begin to imagine the magic these two real life partners will make. This was a big time hit and she remains red hot.

Hikaru Shida defeated Christi Jaynes

Shida is great and this match was very good.  I look forward to this title reign from Shida very much.  She has it all.  This was a hit!

Superbad Death Squad defeated SCU.

This is a giant MISS.  Why would you have Best Friends win a number one contender match over Private Party on the PPV, just to turn around and have this match?  It makes no sense and wasn’t needed.  You have FTR, The Young Bucks and Best Friends, and now you make a new team in Superbad Death Squad a challenger for the straps?  I like Kip Sabian, but this is frustrating.

Overall this show had a lot of both hits and misses but it was one of their weaker shows in what had been a very strong 15 week stretch.
