It was more bad injury news for the Cleveland Indians today. This time it came in the form of losing one of their few strengths, starting pitching.
The team placed right-handed starter Mike Clevinger on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a strain in his upper back. However, early signs indicate that it is much worse and he will miss at least 6-8 weeks.
The Indians called up right-hander Nick Wittgren from Triple-A Columbus who was acquired from the Miami Marlins on Feb. 4. In 8 spring training appearances, he posted a 3.86 ERA.
Clevinger (1-0) hadn’t allowed a run in two starts this season while fanning 22 batters in just 12 innings of mound duty.
