The Avon Eagles Continue To Roll with a 65-28 win over The St. Francis Knights

The Playoffs kick off tonight in Division II Region 6 as The #2 ranked Avon Eagles host the #15 St. Francis de Sales Knights of Toledo.

The Knights turned a Sam DeTillio Interception into points as Knights Quarterback Denim Truss scored on a QB keeper from 5 yards out. The Knights took an early 6-0 lead after a missed extra point.

On their very next possession, DeTillio found Ethan Holbrook for a 66-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead. The Eagles didn’t stop there. Gavin Ehrhardt found paydirt as he took it to the house on a 44-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 14-6 lead over the Knights.

The Knights were not going to lay down, and close shop as Traven Horton ran untouched as he sprinted to the endzone for an 80-yard touchdown run to the game at 14 all.
Gavin Ehrhardt had a nose for the endzone again. This time it was from 1 yard out as his score gave the Eagles the lead 21-14. DeTillio wasn’t done as he connected with Tim Conwell for a 30-yard Touchdown, further extending the Eagle lead 28-21.

The Knights of St. Francis would answer with a 1 yard touchdown from Traven Horton as he saw the endzone for a second time cutting the Eagle lead to 7 (28-21). The Eagles responded with a Sam DeTillio 2 yard Touchdown Run making the score 35-21 in favor of the Eagles at the half.

The Eagles kept rolling as DeTillio found Ethan Holbrook for a 26-yard touchdown pass as the home team was beginning to pull away with a 42-21 lead midway through the third quarter.
The Knights scored for the final time of the night as Denim Truss hit Trey Talboo for a 46-yard touchdown making the score 42-28 in the third quarter.

The Eagles found the endzone as Sam DeTillio scored on two of the final three touchdown scores with runs of 3 and 11 yards, and Tommy Ptacek joined the Touchdown party with a 17-yard score.

Knights Quarterback Devin Truss’ performance can not go unnoticed as the signal-caller passed for 209 yards, one touchdown, and one interception on 18 for 30 attempts. He also ran the ball 12 times for 44 yards and 1 Touchdown.

Traven Horton ran hard for the Knights as he had 20 carries for 158 yards and two touchdowns, including that 80-yard touchdown run.

The Final Score; Avon Eagles 63, St Francis 28.

Player of The Game
After his only interception of the night, Avon Eagles Quarterback Sam DeTillio was locked in and focused throughout the rest of the game. DeTillio went 14 for 18 and 273 passing yards and 3 Touchdowns and one interception; DeTillio also had eight carries for 96 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Next week, The Avon Eagles face Fremont Ross Little Giants, who defeated North Royalton 27-10 in the Second Round Of Division II, Region 6 Playoffs.
