St. Ed’s Topps St. John’s 60-50

Lakewood, OH-

The Titans from Toledo St John’s invaded Lakewood on Saturday night to battle the Eagles of St Edwards.  The Titans came into the game after a tough loss on Friday night at home to the Findlay Trojans 47-41.

The Eagles came into the game after a thrashing of the Lakewood Rangers last Saturday night 65-21 and continued to stay hot with a 60-50 win tonight.

It became very clear right from the start of the game that the Eagles would definitely have the size advantage over the Titans.  The biggest mismatch of the game was any defender for the Titans trying to guard Eagles F Wendell Henry at 6’6″ and 235 lbs.  Wendell is a load for anyone to handle and is very good at establishing his position in the post early and using his large body to his advantage.

The first half of the game was an even tilt and both teams struggled offensively and both teams played excellent defense.  Eagles F Danny Lavelle led scorers in the first half with 7 points and Titans G Joseph Taylor led them with 5 points in the first half.  The scoreboard showed a halftime score of Eagles 23 Titans 16

The second half of the game the Eagles were able to dominate the paint both offensively and defensively and Eagles F Wendell Henry took over the game.  The Eagles were able to stretch their lead to 18 points in the second half due to terrible shooting for the Titans.  The Titans hit a hot stretch in the first part of the 4th quarter to get the lead down to 10 points but they were never able to get any closer.

Final Score Eagles 60 Titans 50

The Eagles will travel to  Lyndhurst Brush on Tuesday night for what will be a hotly contested game

The Titans will travel to Toledo Catholic Central for the cross town Toledo Holy War on Friday night
