St. Ed’s Power Past GlenOak 35-0 to Advance

The GlenOak Golden Eagles didn’t see a lot of gold tonight, but they did see a lot of yellow in a penalty flag riddled loss to St. Ed’s 35-0.  In fact, the Golden Eagles were flagged 9 times for 89 yards, with a large number of personal fouls called.  St. Ed’s will now go on to play Canton McKinley in the next round of the playoffs, at a neutral site.

The Eagles were powered by starting tailback Brandon White who had another monster night with 116 yards on 24 rushes.  He scored three times on the ground, and once through the air.  This helped backup quarterback Thomas Csayni who played for the injured Casey Bullock and also had a strong effort.  He went 7 of 12 for 133 yards and a touchdown in the win.

His main targets were Kyan Mason with 3 catches for 79 yards, all of them big!  As well as Brian Sullivan with 2 catches for 29 yards.  The St. Ed’s defense also looked masterful with 5 sacks and a ton of pressure on GlenOak quarterback Adrion Burt who finished with 9 yards passing.  The lone Golden Eagle to pick up ground was tailback Jamar Johnson who rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries.

The Golden Eagles received the ball to start the game and got off to a quick start with a 14-yard jaunt by Jamar Johnson on the game’s first play. They stacked a few first downs together, and also received help from a personal foul. Eventually a Logan Thomas sack for St. Ed’s ended the drive as the Golden Eagles couldn’t convert a 4th and 2 near midfield.

St. Ed’s responded by putting together a nice drive that saw a fourth down conversion of their own as Brandon White rattled off a 15-yard run.  A few plays later it was White again, this time from 3 yards out to score the games first points.  A nice 7 play drive that took a little under two minutes and went 42 yards to start the game 6-0 St. Edward on top.

After a 3 and out was forced, the next St. Edward drive began on their own 45-yard line.  The drive was again, centered around tailback Brandon White who pounded the ball time and time again. The drive was snuffed out on a Kyan Mason fumble inside the 10-yard line as St. Ed’s was about to score.

St. Ed’s got it back again in great field position as their third drive began on the GlenOak 44-yard line. They faced another fourth down, and this time went to the air to convert as Csayni hit Kyan Mason for a 25-yard pass, bringing the ball down to the GlenOak 3-yard line. A Brandon White 3-yard touchdown run would polish off the drive with points.  This score increased the lead to 14-0 as the two-point pass conversion was successful to Drew Mahle with 7:11 left in the first half.

The Eagles of St. Edward started the final drive of the first half with 2:19 to go, from their own 30-yard line.  They ripped off a 36-yard pass right away to Kyan Mason deep down field.  Another pass to Sullivan for 10 more, put them in striking distance to score. A few moments later Brandon White scored for the third time and moved the score to 21-0 at halftime with a nice 7 play, 70-yard drive in just 1:56 off the clock.

Midway through the third quarter, Ed’s was on the drive again, with a 19-yard pass play to Kyan Mason to spark the offense.  A few moments later, it was the wheel route to Brandon White for their next touchdown as White saw paint for the fourth time on the night.  The score advanced St. Ed’s lead to 28-0 with 4:16 to go.

Later in the third quarter, Joshua Groudle got the running clock going with a 9-yard touchdown run up the middle.  1:02 remained on the clock in the third as Nicholas Variglotti had a 61-yard punt return to set it up.

St. Ed’ 6 15 14 0 = 35

GlenOak 0 0 0 0 = 0
