Please see the below message per Owner Steve Large via his Facebook Post on Saturday concerning the permanent closing of Skyway.
For more than seven decades, Skyway has been so much more than a restaurant—it has been a tradition, a gathering place, and a piece of our community’s story.
What began in 1952 with Pop Ross’s dream and hard work grew into something truly special. Long before drive-in restaurants became a trend, this place was serving fresh food and friendly smiles from the car window. It wasn’t just a place to grab a meal—it was where first dates happened, Little League victories were celebrated, families made Friday-night traditions, and generations returned with children and grandchildren of their own.
Pop Ross and Aunt Ruth built more than a business. They built a legacy founded on hard work, quality, and treating every customer like family. That legacy was lovingly passed from one generation to the next, each carrying forward the same pride, dedication, and commitment to serving the community.
For our family, this place means even more. It was here that the Steve met the love of his life, Kim. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising four children and now celebrating the joy of a grandchild. Skyway didn’t just provide a livelihood—it became the foundation on which a family was built.
For countless people, the taste of one of a Ski Hi or a milkshake instantly brings back memories of warm summer evenings, classic cars, laughter with friends, and the feeling of home. Those memories are the true measure of what Skyway became.
Thank you to everyone who supported our family over the years. Thank you for making Skyway more than just a restaurant. You helped make it an institution, a landmark, and a cherished part of our community.
To Ross—and to every generation that followed—thank you for proving that the best recipes aren’t just made with great food. They’re made with love, hard work, family, and the people who keep coming back year after year.
Some places feed a town. Others become part of its history. Skyway did both.
Our doors may close, but our legacy never will.
