Stow, OH– On August 26th, the Roosevelt Rough Riders kicked off their second game of the season against the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals. The Rough Riders were restricted to nine points, while the Royals amassed 42. Hundreds of fans supported their teams on the warm and cloudy day.
The Rough Riders and Royals possess a 1-1 record after tonight’s game for the 2022-2023 season.
Roosevelt suffered a slow start as their quarterback Donovan Daetwyler went down twice during the first half with injuries. The Royals made their first touchdown within three minutes of the first quarter. With 6:12 on the clock, CVCA’s running back Kyle Snider put another touchdown on the board with the extra point kick, bringing the score to 12-0.
With under two minutes left, Snider scored another touchdown with a 20-yard run. Once again, the extra point kick was good by Calvin Warren. The score going into halftime was 21-0, with the Royals in the lead.
CVCA continued to dominate the second half. Kyle Snider scored another touchdown with a 24-yard run. The extra point kick was good by Calvin Warren.
The Rough Riders were struggling even more when middle linebacker Marcus Boyd got injured.
The Royals benefitted from the break and scored another touchdown following the Rough Rider’s time out. With 5:56 left in the third quarter, Joey Kopec scored a touchdown with a 21-yard run. The extra kick point was good.
Unfortunately, Roosevelt’s quarterback Donovan Daetwyler went down again with 2:12 left on the clock. The score by the end of the third quarter was 42-3, with the Royals in the lead. By the fourth quarter, the Rough Riders finally put more points on the board with a touchdown.
The Royals will play Canton South next week at home. The Rough Riders will be back at home against their rival, the Ravenna Ravens, in their first match of the season.
