It was a magical senior night for the Rocky River Pirates as they won in commanding fashion 16-3 as 7 different players scored, and 4 different players had hat tricks. Leading the way for the Pirates was Alexis Tisler with 4 while Grace Dewitt, Mackenzie Russell and Kaityln Byrne each had 3. Reagan Connelly, Daisy Thompson and Emma Yezbak each had one to finish the scoring for the Pirates.
Avon had troubles winning faceoffs and creating openings to score. Their three goals came from Ella Schaffer, Madison Dunn and Addison Atkins.
It took the Pirates only 34 seconds to start the scoring, with a free position goal from Mackenzie Russell. It was only right that a senior would kick off the scoring on Senior Night! The second River goal of the night also came on a free possession, 90 seconds in, from Grace Dewitt this time as the Pirates jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead.
A goal by Alexis Tisler, unassisted at the 8:15 mark, stretched the lead to 3 for the Pirates. From there, Elle Mocho picked up a yellow card, but the Pirates were able to kill it, and keep the lead at 3 – 0 midway into the first quarter. A few moments later, it was Avon picking up the yellow card which allowed the Pirates to go on the attack, but excellent defense by Grace Hebert was able to shut down the River attack and keep it at 3-0.
With about 5:30 left in the first, Grace Dewitt pierced the net again, to make it 4-0 Pirates. Before the quarter was over, the Pirates scored two more times to make it 6-1 as the Eagles captured one as well. The two Pirate goals coming from Kaitlyn Byrne on an empty net as Grace Hebert came all the way out for a moment, and the Eagles got caught. The other Pirate goal coming from Emma Yezbak while the Eagles goal came by Ella Schaeffer.
The Pirates began the second quarter the exact same way they began the first quarter, with a goal from Mackenzie Russell. It took nearly six minutes before we saw another goal when the Pirate sister combination led to an Alexis Tisler goal, coming from the assist of Addie. With just under four minutes remaining in the first half, the Pirates led 8-1.
Rocky River was not yet done in the first half however, as they scored three goals in the final three minutes of the half, to take a 11-1 lead into the break . Those goals coming from the sticks of Byrne with 2 more and Mackenzie Russell.
The Pirates cruised from there to take home the 16-3 win.
