Revitalizing a Fallen Athlete (Part 1 of 4)

April 2019

The clock strikes 6:30 a.m. and the alarm on my phone goes off just to the left of my bed. I instantly wake up and instead of hitting snooze, hop out of bed and go straight to the living room. I grab my yoga mat and unroll it on the floor. Starting my day with yoga had given me a new energy and excitement for each morning. After 30 minutes of yoga, I grab a light breakfast, then hop in the shower and get ready for class which starts in less than an hour. Classes, a lunch break and homework pretty much consume the middle portion of my day until I cook dinner.

After dinner, I head out for a late-night workout and then return to cook a second dinner. I then take another shower and hop in bed around midnight. This had become my quite rigid and regular schedule. As soon as the alarm goes off, I would start the cycle once again. I was feeling accomplished and thought the schedule would last for a long time. I was wrong and it changed in the blink of an eye.
