Ranking The AFC Quarterbacks After 6 Weeks

Cleveland  Browns coverage at Kee On Sports is brought to you by these fine sponsors – https://keeonsports.com/sponsors/3/

Heading into Week 7 of the NFL Season, here are our current AFC Quarterback rankings.  They are based on stats, overall record and who we would want to have the ball in their hands at the end of the game.

Rank 16th

Houston Texans David Mills

912 passing yards, 5 TD 7 INT, 1-5 record

Reason – Mills was never meant to above third on the depth chart until Watson lost his mind, and Tyrod Taylor got hurt.  It won’t be much longer until Mills is out of the league completely. I’d say he is gone by Thanksgiving, unless the Texans are trying to tank yet again.

Rank 15th

NY Jets Zach Wilson

1117 passing yards, 4 TD, 9 INT, 1-4 record

Reason – He has been terrible, but still not bad enough to bench.  This is his rookie year and you’d have to expect improvement eventually as the year goes on.  What other choice do they have but to stick with him and see how it plays out?

Rank 14th

Jacksonville Jaguars Trevor Lawrence

1465 passing yards, 7 TD, 8 INT 1-5 record

Reason – Still much to early too tell how his season will play out and if he will have a better rookie year than Burrow did last season.  Lawrence has all the skills needed, but still needs weapons to develop around him that he doesn’t have quite yet.

Rank 13th

Miami Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa 1-5 record

883 passing yards, 3 TD, 3 INT

Reason – It’s been a shorter sample size because of injury.  Still, plenty of time to see how it plays out.  Afterall, they did go to him last year after Ryan Fitzpatrick got them out to a winning record.  I have never had faith in Tua, but we shall see if he proves me wrong.

Rank 12th

Denver Broncos Teddy Bridgewater

1514 passing yards, 10 TD, 4 INT 3-3 record

Reason – He is a career journeyman for a reason.  He won’t lose the game for you, but he will seldom win the game for you either.

Rank 11th

New England Mac Jones

1472 passing yards, 7 TD, 6 INT 2-4 record

Reason – Some may be shocked with me ranking him this high, but out of all the rookie quarterbacks in the AFC thus far, he has shown the most promise.   He has the best coach in the history of sports teaching him, and he has the competitive fighting spirit needed in a winner. I like Jones a lot and he has gotten better each week.

Rank 10th

Pittsburgh Ben Roethlisberger

1515 passing yards, 7 TD, 4 INT 3-3 record

Reason – He hasn’t been the complete disaster some folks tried to make him out to be.  They are winning games with next to no receiving core.  He’s not the Ben of old, but he is still extremely serviceable and playing for an incredible coach.

Rank 9th

Tennessee Ryan Tannehill

1467 yards, 6 TD 4 INT 4-2 record

Reason – There is so much hate for Tannehill and I will never understand why?  It’s not his fault he has the best running back in the NFL lining up behind him.  He may be off to a slow start, but I have nothing but faith in Tannehill.  He doesn’t turn the ball over in crucial situations, and proved again last night he can rise to the challenge of a big game.

Rank 8th

Indianapolis Colts Carson Wentz

1545 passing yards, 9 TD 1 INT 2-4 record

Reason – Don’t let his past injury history distract you from the numbers he has put up in his career.  Wentz was a 2nd overall pick and has played like it at times as well.  While the Colts record could be better, they have had a brutal schedule to start the season.
