The Browns enter this weekend’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers banged up in the secondary with Denzel Ward out, and in the linebacking core with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah out for at least 4 weeks. While it is easy to see Martin Emerson working himself into Ward’s starting slot on the outside, there is a bit of a question as to who will be tasked to step up in the absence of JOK.
The Browns have several options and they are as follows.
Veteran Devin Bush replacing him as the starter on the weak side. Bush has been in the NFL since 2019 and won’t back down from the task. He is also a leader they need at that position. He may need be a sack leader, but he is smart and doesn’t commit many if any penalties. Bush can bring it if needed.
Another Brown likely to get increased snaps will be Mohamoud Diabate after excelling in his opportunities over the last few games.
I’d also be on the lookout for Nathaniel Watson and Winston Reid to see an increased workload.
