The Orange Lions took the road to take on the Holy Name Green Wave on senior night. The Lions, however, would go on to spoil the special night for the Wave and win the contest in a lopsided fashion, 18-6.
Senior Alexis Gonzalez started things off strong for the Green Wave with a quick goal to give her team the lead 1-0. However, senior Shannon Ahearn was able to respond quickly with a goal of her own. This made the score 1-1 at the 9:45 mark. Ahearn would then come right back to score her second goal of the game and give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
Ahearn was super aggressive to start the game and showed no signs of slowing down. However, a few great passes by the Wave were able to set up Katherine Vuong with a goal to tie the game at 2 apiece with just 2:38 remaining in the quarter.
In the last two minutes of the first quarter, both sides would go on to exchange goals. Sophomore Zoey Lynch and sophomore Natalie Abruzzo would combine for two goals for the Lions. On the other hand, senior Erin O’Connor scored a goal for the Green Wave. This ended the quarter with the Lions on top, 4-3.
Holy Name came out attempting a lot of shots to start the second quarter, however, the Orange Lions defense came to play. Senior Kristen Maurer was able to get things going for the Green Wave to tie the game at 4 apiece at the 9:26 mark. However, sophomore Callyn Schreibman was able to respond right away with a goal of her own, making the score 5-4 halfway through the quarter.
Orange would then go on to score the next three goals, seeing junior Bree Turner score two goals and Ahearn scoring her third goal of the game. It was all Orange, and they showed no signs of slowing down. However, freshman Claire Wisniewski was able to end the drought with a goal of her own to make the score 8-5.
Ahearn was doing it all as she came right back to score her fourth and fifth goals of the game. This made the score 10-5 with just 2:05 to play in the second quarter. The Lions were in complete control as sophomore Cydney Feinberg was able to score a goal of her own to extend the lead to 11-5.
Orange continued to have their way late and were dominating both sides of the ball. Schreibman would come down to score her second goal of the game. The Lions were putting it on the Green Wave as the quarter came to an end with a score of 12-5.
The third quarter started very slowly. However, Wisniewski was able to end the slow start with her second goal of the game to make the score 12-6. Sophomore Lucy Jais was able to respond to the Green Wave goal with one of her own. This made the score 13-6 with 5:50 remaining in the first half.
The quarter started to become very back and forth late. However, Schreibman was able to score her third goal of the game to make the score 14-6. The Orange Lions started to find a rhythm after a slow start to the quarter. Ahearn came right back to score yet another goal, bringing her total to six on the evening, making the score 15-6 with 3:56 remaining.
After a slow start to the quarter, the pace of play really started to pick up late. Abruzzo was able to score her second goal of the game to make the score 16-6. The last three minutes of the quarter were super slow and saw neither side score, ultimately bringing the quarter to a close.
The fourth quarter started even slower than the third. It was a very back-and-forth quarter that saw both sides not doing much offensively, but both playing great defense. However, Turner was able to score her third goal of the game to stop the slowness of the quarter. Turner would then come right back and score her fourth goal of the game, making the score 18-6 and ultimately ending the game.
The player of the game for the Orange Lions was senior Shannon Ahearn with six goals, and the player of the game for the Holy Name Green Wave was freshman Claire Wisniewski with two goals.
