NXT, AEW, UFC & Bellator Team Up For Dream Saturday Night!

What a Saturday Night of Wrestling and MMA.  Let’s try to give you our takeaways on each big card.

AEW Dynamite

The have a tremendous Tag Team Division and that is clearly one of their biggest strengths.  But when every week consists of 80% booking of Tag Team Matches, and very few singles, a strength is becoming a weakness quickly.

Instead of having random one-off pro wrestlers show up to challenge Cody the last two months, they should have built a strong second tier singles division, they didn’t and that was a mistake. Perhaps now with Brodie Lee defending the TNT Title, that will turn around.

Speaking of Brodie Lee, wow!  I don’t think many saw the squash match over Cody coming, but that was perfectly booked.  Cody is such a great leader and proved again last night that he is always willing to do what is best for the company and put his ego second.

We’re excited to see the reign of Lee and hope it gets past All Out coming up in September. The final image of a knocked out Cody holding hands with a choked out Brandi was brilliant!

As for The Nightmare sisters losing in the finals of the Tag Team Cup Tournament, that too was the smart move to make. The tournament itself was a good way to focus on the growing women’s division and I think the right women were chosen to win in Ivelisse & Diamante.

Elsewhere on the card, Chris Jericho continued to prove his genius by booking himself in the first ever Mimosa Match against budding superstar Orange Cassidy.

Brian Cage continues to get over as a monster by destroying Darby Allen. Can Thunder Rosa help the AEW womens division?  It looks like we will find out soon.

Finally, Jon Moxley vs MJF is setting up to be the perfect Tough Guy Champion vs Weasel Challenger fans love to see!
