by The North Olmsted 10U Hot Stove team captured the state championship today with a thrilling 12-7 victory over crosstown rival North Ridgeville. The win was sealed for good in the 6th with a Andrew Hartenstine homerun. Chase Lazar was the fire plug the Eagles needed as he drove in 5 massive runs in the big victory.
It was a come from behind victory as this Eagle team continued to show nothing but heart and hustle this season. They actually trailed 5-2 in the second after North Ridgeville notched home runs by Caleb and Lucas. Later on the fourth, after the Eagles cut the lead to 5-4, the Rangers struck again to extend the lead to 6-4 on a Luca G RBI.
From there however, the Eagles began to soar and take things over, outscoring the Rangers 8-1 the rest of the way for the victory! It began in the fifth as they plated 6 runs on 5 hits to take the lead and never look back! The inside the park homer by Andrew Hartenstine in the sixth put it away for good as the “sparkling grape juice” was put on ice and the fat lady began to warm them pipes.
I’ll say it again, it was only a few short years ago that this team was a 3-13 team. But folks, they weren’t a 3-13 team at heart, they worked their butts off, never gave up and have now lived the American Dream! If they are not a prime example of what our forefathers were talking about all those years ago, then I don’t know what could be. They are the American Dream!
There is no word yet if North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Jones Daily will be hosting dinner for them this week to celebrate, we will keep on that story as well.
