by ALLEN, TX – Friday Night Lights finally returns to the Lone Star State in a nationally ranked top-10 matchup. No. 16 Allen cruised to a one-sided upset victory over the No. 10 Duncanville Panthers in a rematch of last year’s class 6A Division I state semifinal.
The Rundown
Allen took an early lead when quarterback Ty Snell (SO) connected on a 23-yard pass to Cylas Siciliano (JR) for a touchdown. The Eagles would go on to miss the PAT, and both offenses struggled to get anything else going, ending the quarter with Allen up 6-0. The Eagles would add to their lead scoring with just a little over six minutes remaining in the second quarter on a 1-yard rush by senior running back Lyndon Spriggs. The Panthers answered with a touchdown of their own as Trenton Yancey (SR) split the safeties and found himself wide open to catch a 52-yard pass from quarterback Maximus “The Great” Denson (SR) to end the half at a score of 12-7.
This, however, would be the only time Duncanville could find the end zone totaling 163 total yards on the night; averaging 5.16 yards per pass and 1.98 yards per rush.
Allen on the other hand would score twice more in the fourth quarter as Snell found Zach Williams (SO) for a 20-yard touchdown pass while Spriggs carried two defenders on his back to fight for his second touchdown, a 9-yard rush with a little over a minute and a half to go in the game.
The offense was not the only impressive thing for the Allen Eagles. The defense played just as well, if not better, accumulating seven sacks, one interception, and stifling one of Texas’ premier run programs to just 65 rushing yards.
Kee-On Players of the Game: Ty Snell and Lyndon Spriggs
The two Kee-On Sports Players of the Game — Snell and Spriggs — stood out for their offensive roles. The two combined for 270 of 285 total offensive yards for the Allen Eagles and had a hand in every touchdown. While going 17-25, Snell had two touchdowns on 163 passing yards and 46 rushing yards. The most impressive thing that Snell showed was the ability to stay in the pocket and show off his arm strength. He will be someone to keep an eye on as he looks to improve on his two interceptions from the game. Spriggs was not afraid of contact totaling 61 yards on 17 attempts with majority of his runs staying through the middle of the field. His strength showed as he fought through contact on both of his touchdowns.
What’s Next
Allen will remain at home next Friday at 7 p.m. as they take on the Texas No. 5 ranked DeSoto Eagles, who are currently in Florida taking on St. Thomas Aquinas late Saturday afternoon.
Duncanville will look to bounce back as they take on former district-mate Cedar Hill in their first game at home of the 2026 campaign. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday evening.
