NEWHOUSE BOXING: Full Results From “A Night to Remember”

WESTLAKE, Ohio – NEWHOUSEBOXING came to Northeast Ohio tonight in the new fight capital of the state, beautiful Westlake Ohio.  The card featured 7 pro fights, a packed house and appearances by Hall of Fame Boxer Ray Boom Boom Mancini, Announcing Legend George Phillips, Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar and Rico Mcgee of The Sports Minute Podcast.

The card began with two quick knockout finishes as Amir Mason out of Cleveland knocked out Shauncy Perry in just 1:22 of the first round with a vicious blow to the body. He hit Perry so hard, that Peery keeled over and never got up until it was far too late.  The second knockout of the night took only 45 seconds for Avious Griffin out of Chattanooga Tennessee to stop Augustin Junco fighting out of San Francisco by way of Argentina.

It was a rough night for the Argentina’s from San Francisco as Junco’s trainer partner Diedo Luque lost in the main event by way of unanimous decision to hometown favorite Mark David Jr.  The hometown hero used all 6 rounds to pound Luque raw in the win in front of a crowd that was ready to come unglued every time he landed a blow.

Elsewhere on the card, Danny Rosenberger landed a decision victory over Jeremy Ramos.  I had it 4 rounds to 2 for Ramos who pushed the action all fight, but clearly I was wrong. Danny had the crowd behind him, and in the end, the judges saw it his way too.

Abdullah Mason was another hometown winner tonight with a TKO over Manual Guzman.  He pushed the action and landed monster shots for two straight rounds, before the ref had finally seen enough and called in favor of Mason after the second round.

In the co main event of the evening, Roy Barringer hit Michael Moore so hard he fell though the ropes for the 4th round knockout.  Barringer almost got a stoppage after the third round when he landed a thunderous shot to Moore in the closing seconds that caused the doctor to step in and check on Moore between rounds.  It wasn’t much longer after that when Barringer stopped him cold.

The fight of the night went to Chaise Nelson against Walter Santibanes.  In a decision that was razor close, Santibanes improved to 11-0 as Nelson fell to 19-2-1.  Two judges had it in favor of Santibanes, and one had it the way I did, split down the middle at 4 each.

I love the way Nelson fights and still believe he has a very bright future in the sport that will see plenty of championship gold, but tonight just wasn’t his night. He had plenty of flashes but could never quite get over the top to dominate the fight or win decisively.  I felt he was down 4 rounds to 3 heading into the 8th and needed to explode in that round to win it. He may have waited too long as two of the judges had it lopsided by that point.

To recap, you winners tonight were

Amir Mason over Shauncy Perry by 1rst round KO at 1:22

Avious Griffin over Auguston Junco by round 1 KO at 45 seconds

Danny Rodenberger by UD over Jeremy Ramos

Abdullah Mason over Manuel Guzman by ref stoppage after round two.

Walter Santibanes over Chaise Nelson by MD

Roy Barringer over Michael Moore by KO at 1:20 of the 4th

Mark David Jr by UD over Diego Luque in the main event
