Miami RedHawks Triumph in First Round of NCAA Field Hockey Against UC Berkeley

The Miami University field hockey team left their mark, shutting down the University of California with a resounding 3-0 victory. 

The RedHawks’ electrifying performance secured them into the next round of the NCAA tournament, where they are poised to face Northwestern University. 

The loss marked the end of an impressive season for the Cal team, concluding with a 12-8 record, while Miami surged to 15-7 on the season.

In what was anticipated to be a tough matchup, both teams showcased remarkable stick work and dedication. 

The game started with minimal rotation from Cal, hinting at their strategy to hold their ground defensively.

The first quarter was drawing to a close when a game-altering moment unfolded. 

Senior Claudia Negrete Garcia (#9), a standout for the RedHawks, seized an opportunity on a penalty corner with a mere 18 seconds remaining in the quarter. 

Her precision and skill allowed her to strike, giving Miami a 1-0 lead. 

This remarkable feat was made possible by the impressive teamwork of Madison Workman (#4) and Carlie Servis (#7), who provided the assists.

The second period rolled on with both teams fiercely competing, but the score remained unaltered. 

The RedHawks maintained their slim 1-0 advantage, heading into the second half with optimism.

As the clock ticked down in the third quarter, Junior Carlie Servis (#7) made her mark on the scoreboard, extending Miami’s lead to 2-0. 

The team’s relentless pursuit of excellence was evident in their relentless attacks, applying constant pressure on the Cal defense.

The fourth quarter began with the RedHawks holding a comfortable lead of 2-0.

However, they were not content to rest on their laurels. In a display of sheer determination, Claudia Negrete Garcia (#9) once again proved her mettle. 

Less than four minutes into the final stanza, she capitalized on yet another penalty corner. 

The seamless coordination between Garcia (#9), Workman (#4), and Servis (#7) was a sight to behold, and it resulted in Miami’s third goal of the game, solidifying their commanding 3-0 lead.

The final minutes of the game saw both teams battling with great intensity, but the RedHawks held strong, successfully preserving their three-goal lead until the last whistle. 

As the dust settled on this thrilling showdown, the Miami University RedHawks emerged victorious, their impressive performance sending them to the next round of the NCAA tournament. 

Their upcoming challenge against Northwestern University on Friday, November 10 at 1 p.m. ET in Evanston, Illinois, promises to be an exciting clash that will determine who advances further in this college field hockey spectacle.

Throughout the match, the players exhibited tremendous stick work, showcasing their skill and agility on the field. 

RedHawks throughout this game had many attempts happening as buzzer-beaters. This not only added to the excitement of the match but also highlighted the team’s ability to maintain relentless pressure on the opposition.

As the RedHawks prepare to face Northwestern, they do so with a winning mentality, ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead in their pursuit of NCAA tournament glory.
