On the Friday evening of September 11th, the Medina Bees and Stow-Munroe Falls Bulldogs faced each other on the soft green turf.
The showdown started off in Medina’s favor, as they received the advantage of starting, due to the results of the coin toss. Starting off strong with rapid offense, with tackles and numerous downs from both teams, the athletes shuffled back and forth from one 30-yard line to the other.
Back-to-back double offense worked for Medina’s Max Hilvert and Marshal Owings as they competed as a fantastic duo of offense, giving tackles of 60 yards together in the first quarter. However, with Stow-Munroe Falls’s Jack Miller, able to escape the strong offense, he completed a touchdown with a successful catch in the end zone, completed from a 40-yard throw. Followed by a completed free kick.
Medina knew they had to contain the Bulldogs quick as the time in the quarter quickly rolled by. With two downs from Stow-Munroe Falls, Medina intercepted the ball at the 50-yard line and received the ball. With a minute and a half left, Medina’s Kaden Patrick ran 30 yards, completing a touchdown to swiftly catch up the score.
Starting the second quarter, the players quickly moved to the end zone from Stow-Munroe Falls’ agility and quick jukes. Rushing as close as the 2-yard marker, they were met with Medina’s strength and offense. Needing to make the touchdown fast, Jack Miller completed a second touchdown as he hurdled through the offensive Medina strength.
Stow-Munroe Falls caused a personal foul, giving Medina a 15 yard advantage, closer to the end zone. With resilience and lateral runs, Medina’s Kaden Patrick completed another touchdown, from a close 10-yard marker and juked Stow-Munroe Falls’ single defender. The second quarter, and the first half of the night ended with a score of 16 for Stow-Munroe Falls and 14 for Medina.
The second half started with an eccentric crowd, excited to keep the game running with positive and enthusiastic energy. With 44 seconds into the third quarter, Medina rushed the ball up the sidelines by Cooper Sokolowski, rushing 50 yards to the end zone, completing a clean touchdown as the crowd screamed in awe. He swiftly completed another touchdown following this by receiving a pass from 30 yards, following a quick juke and spin around a back defender to complete an additional 10 yards to score another six points for Medina. The following kick was incomplete and accompanied by a personal penalty from Medina, gifting Stow-Munroe Falls a 15-yard advantage.
With a stagnant halt in movement due to the dog piles of players on the field, each of the teams were moving slowly, taking up single 10-yard lines at a time. As this continued, the Stow-Munroe players pushed consistently until they had a moment of opportunity to take the open spaces and run to the end zone, tackled at the 10-yard marker.
Against Medina’s offense, Stow-Munroe’s consistency helped as they obtained another touchdown. Stow-Munroe also obtained a touchdown, as a completed interception took place with a fumble, a quick recovery, and a quick dash to the end zone. Medina followed this by also completing a touchdown shortly after, running up the sidelines for 50 yards.
As we approached the end of the game, the teams buckled down with passes, strength, and teamwork. The teams competed with the scores close together for most of the game, taking turns holding the lead. By the last five minutes of the game, Stow-Munroe completed a field goal, tying the score.
The quarter finished with a tied score of 40 to 40, and the teams went into overtime. Attempts from the 20-yard line were not successful from Stow-Munroe Falls, as they rushed the ball close to the end zone but never reached it. When Medina attempted their touchdowns from the 20-yard line, they were intercepted by Stow-Munroe but dropped the ball. Medina completed the game with a final rush to the end zone, completing a touchdown. The final score was 46 to 40 in favor of the Medina Bees.
