Magnificat Streaks Past Shaker 61-14 to Advance

ROCKY RIVER, OH – The Magnificat Blue Streaks pounced their way to the next round of the playoffs tonight with a big 61-14 victory over the Shaker Hts Red Raiders. The night also saw history as Gemma Wichmann added on to her school records for rebounds in a career as she surpassed 700. ( see picture below  )

Wichmann also led the team in points tonight with 16 as Elise Laporte scored 9 from behind the line and Elle Lakios cashed in with 8.  Lizzie Godlewski established her in the paint early for 8 while Izzy Wilson scored 5 and Eva Rivera had 4. Lily Kulman finished with 3 while Ciara Campbell, Moira Chambers, Caroline Schmidt, Ella Hummer and Caroline Schmidt each scored two.

The Red Raiders were led by the dynamic Eleanor Miller who wrapped up her Shaker career with a 10-point performance.  Meanwhile the powerful sophomore forward Oceanne Kabor scored the remaining 4 points.

The game was essentially over after the first 8 minutes as Magnificat dominated right from the start with a quick 8-0 run.  The points came on the strength of back to back three balls from Laporte and Lakios while Lizzie Godlewski had a bucket as well.  The run was stopped by Miller before the Blue Streaks then rattled off 7 straight from Godlewski and Laporte.  A little later on a Wichmann three ball made it 20-4 with 2:14 still to play in the opening quarter.  The Blue Streaks took a 28-4 lead into the second.

A 6-0 Blue Streak run started off the second quarter, fueled by some nice inside work from Godlewski.  The Streaks extended the lead all the way up to 39-4 until Miller drained a three ball.  From there they managed to extend it again, up to 44-9 at break.

Izzy Wilson led a 7-0 run to break the game wide open for good at 51-9 to start the third quarter.  Magnificat rolled from there for the 61-14 win, including a 5-0 fourth quarter.
