Loras College Duhawks Fall to No. 3 Wartburg College 62-7

Despite Evan England’s 210 passing yards, the Duhwaks fell 62-7 on Saturday afternoon in the Rock Bowl. The Duhawks are now 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the A-R-C, meanwhile, Wartburg remains undefeated. The Knights are 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the A-R-C.

Quarterback Evan England was 23 for 43 yards passing for 210 yards with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Brock Couch. Couch had 33 yards receiving in only 3 receptions, including the touchdown. Wide receiver Da’Mani Brown led the Duhawks in receptions and had 80 yards in total.

Xander George, Johnnie Cason II, and Jamel Britt ran 46 yards in total in 28 attempts. Cason also had 15 yards receiving.

On the defensive side for the Duhawks, Josh Rydberg led the team with 11 total tackles (8 solo and 3 assisted). Michael Mixan was not far behind with 8 total tackles (1 solo and 8 assisted).

First Quarter

Loras’s Scott Talmadge kicked off and Wartburg scored in their first drive in under 10 plays. Loras fumbled on their first possession and Wartburg will score on the next drive. Loras was able to get all the way downfield to Wartburg’s 28-yard and was unable to score. Wartburg and Loras will punt at the end of each of their drives for the rest of the quarter. Knights were up 14-0 at the end of the first.

Second Quarter

The Knights started with the ball on their own 45-yard line. Back-to-back first downs allowed Wartburg to score once again. With a successful PAT, the Knights increased their lead to 21-0. The Duhawks fumbled on their second play of the drive and Wartburg will take over once again on Loras’ 26-yard line. The Knights scored once again, making it 28-0. The Wartburg Knights dominated the rest of the half. They forced Loras to punt back-to-back drives. With 3:02 left in the half, the Knights would score once again making git 35-0. Then once again with 24 seconds left, Wartbug will score a touchdown with a successful PAT. The Knights lead 42-0 going into the half.

Third Quarter

Wartburg kicked to Loras to open the second half of the game. Loras struggles to find any yardage and is forced to punt. The Knights will drive the ball downfield in about 7 minutes to score once again. The Knights went up 49-0 with 8:15 left in the third quarter. The Duhawks were forced to punt, and it got returned for a touchdown, Wartburg went up 55-0. Loras got the ball with 4:54 left in the quarter and started at their own 25-yard line. They were able to drive all the way downfield. England completed a pass to Couch for a 20-yard touchdown. Talmadge’s kick was good and the Duhawks were finally on the board but were still down 55-7. Loras ended the quarter with the ball on their own 49-yard line.

Fourth Quarter

The Duhawks were able to get the ball to Wartburg’s 5-yard line. England was picked off in the endzone for a Wartburg touchback. Neither team can get the ball very fair and were forced to punt at the end of each of their respective drives. Wartburg started their final drive of the game with 5:45 left on the clock. Despite a few offensive miscues, the Knights were able to score a final touchdown. The Knights ran the clock down to 2:13 after jumping 62-7. The Duhawks were unable to get the ball across the midfield. The game ended with Wartburg up 62 and Loras at 7.
