Loras College Duhawks Fall to Central College Dutch in Homecoming Match Up 38-14

Despite an early push, the Loras College Duhawks fell 38-14 to the Central College Dutch on Saturday afternoon in the Rock Bowl. The Duahawks are now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the A-R-C, meanwhile, the Dutch improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the A-R-C.

Quarterback Evan England was 41 for 57 passing for 372 yards, with two touchdown passes to wide receiver Mani Brown. Brown had 152 yards and a career-high of 15 receptions this game. Jahem Haynes and Michael Crawford both had 8 receptions for over 50 yards a piece.

Jamel Britt and Johnnie Cason II had 57 rushing yards combined. Cason had 3 receptions as well this game.

On the defensive side, Andrew Hefel led the charge with 9 total tackles (3 solo and 6 assisted). Mike Barber III had 4 solo tackles, an interception and a sack. Milo Collier and Max Terlap also recorded sacks during this matchup. Scott Talmadge went 2 for 2 in his PATs, improving to 19 for 20 on the season.

First Quarter

Central scored first in their third drive of the game to go up 7-0 with 4 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter. The Duhawks struggled all first quarter to get their offense going. They had multiple flags against them but ended the quarter with the ball on Central’s 39-yard line.

Second Quarter

Loras began the 2nd quarter with a 22-yard pass for a first down. England threw a 21-yard pass to Brown for a touchdown. Talmadge makes the extra point to tie the Dutch 7-7. The Dutch do not make any use of a Loras Pass interference and are forced to punt. Loras also punted on their next drive. Both the Dutch and Duhawks’ defense have been stellar so far in this game. Central scored on their next drive with 3:45 left in the half. Loras responds with their own touchdown drive with another England/Brown touchdown. The half ended tied at 14.

Third Quarter

Central received the kick going into the quarter. They scored on their first drive of the half going up 21-14 with 13:05 left. With 8 minutes left in the third Central returns Jarrett Kinney’s punt to Loras’ 6-yard line. They scored on their next play to go ahead 28-14 with 6:44 left in the third quarter. Central scored once again with 3 minutes left to go up 35-14. Loras cannot string the offense together this quarter to put any points on the board.

Fourth Quarter

Loras started the quarter with the ball and did not score after a 5-minute drive with multiple first downs. Central and Loras go back and forth then on Central’s second to last drive they make a 31-yard field goal to put up 38-14. Loras was able to get all the way down the field but once again could not seal the deal and turn the ball over with 1:23 left in the game. Central holds onto the ball to end the game.

Next week Loras will take on Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska.
