Abby Liber scored 16 to lead the Avon Eagles over the North Olmsted Eagles today on the road. Liber passed up on several open shots to get her teammates involved. She also checked out of the game with 3:20 to play in the third quarter.

Those two factors considered; Liber has the talent to have gone off for 30 today if needed. She continues to be an incredible teammate playing hard on both sides of the court.

Liber wasn’t the only Avon Eagle to show supreme effort today as they came out hungry as a team.  Alyssa McLellon finished with 10, while Brooke Laub and Kiley Wiliams both had 8 each.  Catie Geiger chipped in with 7 and Grace Santee looked sharp with 6.  Leading the way for North Olmsted was Brooklyn Beeman with 8 and Jenna Cvijovic with 11.

After a Jenna Cvijovic jumper made it 6-6 with 3:45 left to play in the opening quarter, the hopes of an upset began.  Those hopes would be fleeting however as the Avon Eagles soon took over for good.  Avon would outscore North Olmsted 15-0 to close out the quarter with a 21-6 lead.

Perhaps the biggest killer for North Olmsted was their inability to inbound the ball after a made shot under their own basket.  Time and time again they would throw it right to Avon which allowed the Purple and Gold to stack up the points.

Leading the scoring spree was Abby Liber with 10 in the quarter as she took advantage of some nice transition buckets, and drove the lane at will. North Olmsted must find a way to protect the inside of the key if they are to succeed in the playoffs.  Avon hit 3 from beyond the arc as well, one from Brooke Laub, one from Anna Fitch and one from Liber.  Grace Santee hit a beautiful nothing but net jumper from the elbow as well.

The only thing that stopped it from being a bigger deficit after one was the Avon Eagles struggles from the foul line.  Avon went 2 of 6 from the charity stripe, which is odd for them as they typically shoot better than that.

Alyssa McLellon would score the first 6 points of the second quarter multiple ways. The versatile McLellon hit a three, sunk a foul shot and made a layup to extend the Avon lead to 27-6 and push the overall run to 21-0. From there Brooke Laub would hit her second three pointer of the game, making it 30-6.  A Brooklyn Beeman three pointer off of a turnover would stop the run at 30-9 after 24 straight Avon points.

Avon would close the half strong with 4 more by Liber, 2 from Ryan Clapham, 2 from Catie Geiger and 2 from Kiley Williams.  North Olmsted would match Alyssa McLellons big quarter with one of her own as she finished with 6 in the frame. Avon led 40-14 at the break.

Avon started the second half with an 8-0 run when 4 of their five starters each had a bucket.  An Amber Thomas bucket for North Olmsted would stop the initial run at 48-16.  Avon would go on to finish the quarter with a 12-2 run to extend the lead 60-18 into the fourth.

In the 20-point third quarter, the Avon Eagles spread it around nicely as 7 different players scored.  McLellon had 4 more, Catie Geiger 2, Grace Santee 3, Alyssa Peganoff 4, Natalie Santoro 3, Brooke Laub2 and Abby Liber 2.

North Olmsted actually outscored Avon 16-10 in the fourth quarter.  Jenna Cvijovic had 7 of her 11 in the fourth.  Leading the way in the fourth quarter for Avon was Kiley Williams with 6 as she had a season high tonight with 8. The game would finish with Avon on top 70-34.

Avon will now close out the season with Berea-Midpark while North Olmsted will challenge North Ridgeville.
