The North Ridgeville Rangers used a school record 9 three pointers made by Grace Kingery to roll past the Padua Bruins 71-41 today at Rocky River High School as part of their holiday tournament. Kingery finished with 35 points on the afternoon. Graces best friend off the court, and 3 year teammate, Kat Crevda also had a monster game inside with 21 points, most of which came on the block as she posted up, along with 5 from the foul line.

Kat talked about her inside game, “I knew we were going to have that advantage and the coaches told me to get inside, so that is exactly what I did.”  Grace had the school record just 24 hours after earning her 1,000th career point yesterday, she talked about the magical last two days, “It’s been crazy and the amount of support from teammates has really helped me along the way. They keep getting me open because they are working hard to get open.”

Another big part of that inside game tonight was the presence of CC Bouman who used put backs to score all 6 of her points.  The feisty freshman Reyna Balderas put in 3 more as Brooke Lime sunk 5 points herself.  Kailey Shultz had a point from the line as well.

I spoke with Coach Esser about how big that inside game was tonight, “We need multiple scorers and we knew that the mismatch was going to be in the paint, so we just wanted to pound that ball into Kat, and get her going.  CC had a great game as well on the boards and in the paint, “ said coach Esser.

The Padua Lady Bruins are a great bunch of student athletes, and they competed hard all game.  They were led by the dynamic and versatile Alyssa Weber who finished with 11 hard fought points.  Lexi Miller had 6 while Keilie Anderson and Alyssa Helman had 5 each. Also scoring for the Bruins was Sara Srbinsoski and Anna Gerding with 1 each, while Ally Tonsing, Michela Cario and Audrey Butler had 3 each.  Emma Takacs rounded out the Bruin scoring with 2. All in all, 10 Padua Bruins scored!

The final score doesn’t indicate just how close this game was in the first half.  An Audrey Butler put back at the buzzer for the Bruins made it 14-11 Rangers after one. It was in the second quarter, that North Ridgeville got hot as Kingery buried two of her triples in that quarter, and Crevda dominated the paint with 6 in that quarter alone.  Padua had a hot hand as well as Michela Cario, Keilei Anderson and Alysaa Helman all buried shots from deep to keep close, only down 34-25 at half.

The second half was all Rangers as Kingery exploded for 6 of her school record 9 three pointers on the day.  This mixed in with three balls from Reyna Calderas and Brooke Lime put it away for good as the Rangers led 59-36 after three.
