Keystone Advances To State Final Four With Win Over Chippewa

The Keystone Lady Wildcats were able to scrap and fight and ultimately keep their undefeated season alive with a 50-38 victory over Chippewa.

The first 4 minutes of the game were all Lady Chipps who started the game on a 9-0 run and left the Lady Wildcats reeling from a barrage of defensive haymakers.  The Lady Wildcats had no answer for the defensive pressure shoved upon them and it forced Lady Wildcat coach Rocky Houston to call an abrupt timeout.  “They showed us a full court press that we had not seen on tape from them and we had to make some adjustments” Coach Houston commented after the victory.  The big difference was the insertion of the Lady Wildcats point guard and freshmen phenom Madyson Sokowlowski who was able to almost single handedly  beat the press of the Lady Chipps, time and time again.

The Lady Wildcats were able to go on a 25-0 run with amazing precision on the offensive end with an onslaught of 3-point field goals and a stifling 2-1-2 half court press.  It allowed the Lady Wildcats to take 25-11 lead going into the half.

The third quarter was a battle of attrition as neither team was able to make any open shots and the defense of both teams made the layout of the court rather murky.

The final quarter of the game identified an offensive resurgence for the Lady Chipps, they were able to cut the lead to 10 points halfway through the stanza.  The breaking point of the game was a technical foul called on the Lady Chipps post player Sky Regan who was arguing a call and it was her fifth personal as well which fouled her out of the game.  The Lady Wildcats were able to make enough free throws down the stretch to secure their first trip to the State semi finals in school history.

The final score was Lady Wildcats 50 Lady Chipps 38.

The Lady Wildcats (28-0) will play the #1 ranked team in Division 3 Columbus Africentric at 6pm on Thursday at the University of Dayton Arena
