We’re pleased to name Berea-Midpark Head Coach Kevin Braaten as our SWC Girls basketball coach of the year. He was thrust into the position only weeks before the season was supposed to start. Giving up his position as head Boys coach in the process, to help the school and keep the program strong. Coach Braaten had a masterful season, even with the very short offseason to prepare as the Titans went an impressive 17-5 in the regular season with a mark of 11-3 in the SWC.
They had some impressive out of conference wins against Brunswick and Highland. Perhaps most of all, they were the only SWC team to defeat Olmsted Falls in a thrilling Friday night clash.
Braaten was the picture of steadiness during the season and guided the ship flawlessly as the year went on.
Berea-Midpark has one of the better programs in boys and girls hoops in the entire state and that is a testament to the coaches that were there before them as well. In the end, Coach Braaten prepared to coach boys and had to pivot, never complaining, just excelling!
Not to mention his team had zero seniors starting and zero on the roster I was given. For them to excel like they did is truly incredible and makes them a serious threat to make a run not only at the conference next year, but also at State. Coach has always been gracious with us as well and we truly enjoy covering his teams and all the Titan teams quite frankly.
Congrats coach Braaten, you earned this one! The Titans host Medina one week from tonight to open postseason play.

Congrats to Coach B, this team doesn’t win like this with the other coach that resigned! Prove me wrong
My family is new to the area, moved here from Texas in September and both of my daughters are interested in playing basketball. I read in the article that he was supposed to be the Boys coach and then some sort of tragedy happened, did the old coach die?
Hi Chris , welcome to Berea. If your daughters are interested in playing reach out to the AD he’s a good guy … maybe he can give you answers to why he got fired or had to
resign. We still have no clue why it’s been a secret. But what I will say the new coach has done a fantastic job taking over the program!
