KENT STATE WOMEN WIN FACULTY ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVE AWARD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY

***PRESS RELEASE***

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kent State University women’s athletics program has been named the winner of the 2019-20 Mid-American Conference Women’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Academic Achievement Award.

This marks the first time in program history for the Golden Flashes to win this prestigious annual award. The FAR Awards are designed to recognize the Conference institution with the highest overall combination of both grade point average (GPA) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) rank by gender. The GPA was based upon the last fall semester.

The Conference FAR’s worked with the Athletic Academic Advisors to compute an award that best represents the academic achievement of student-athletes in a competitive setting. The FAR Awards are given to those institutions male and female programs with the highest overall combination of GPA and APR within the Conference. Only MAC sponsored sports are used.

“I am incredibly proud of this historic achievement. The work and dedication by our women’s student-athletes to earn this prestigious award is unmatched,” said Kent State Director of Athletics, Joel Nielsen. “This is not only a testament to that dedication, but displays the unwavering support from coaches, our academic support personnel, faculty and staff.”

All nine Kent State women’s athletic programs posted a 3.30 GPA or higher. Kent State had single year perfect score APR rankings of 1,000 in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s golf, gymnastics, softball, women’s soccer, women’s track & field and volleyball. In addition, women’s golf, gymnastics and softball have all averaged a perfect score APR ranking of 1,000 over the previous four seasons.
