Joining the Other Side

I have been working in sports for four years and counting. This may seem strange because I am only a junior in college, but I started as a student athletic trainer for my high school football team exactly four years ago. I have been playing softball since I was six years old and still play at the Division III level.

This was the start of me falling in love with the other side of the field.

I wanted to get involved elsewhere in my high school and I had grown up around football, so I figured to start with something I knew. My dad coached while I was growing up and my brother played as well. I reached out to a few of my friends, and they loved the idea! We talked with the athletic trainer, and she agreed to have us help.

We began at the start of football camp. We were there every day at 6 am prepping before the team arrived and would stay late cleaning up. Our longest days were always 7on7s. Once the season started, we were on the sideline for every game, we even got to travel with the team to state in 2019.  With COVID pushing football to the spring of 2021, our senior year was rough. Many of our best players transferred to finish high school early and play spring ball at their respective schools. We still had a great senior year continuing to work with our athletic trainer the whole school year. We had created a bond with both her, each other, and the football team that will last forever.

Being on those sidelines was one of the best feelings outside of playing on the diamond. An experience I am forever grateful for. I wanted to find a way to keep that up, knowing softball ends for me once I graduate college. I knew I found my calling in sports!

I have been interning with many different organizations. Writing for Kee On Sports will be my third internship and I am extremely excited to get started!
