Holy Name Wins a Thriller Against Normandy

Holy Name beat Normandy 21-20 behind Andrew Cole who had 125 passing yards on 4 of 11 passing with a passing touchdown and 97 rushing yards on 10 rushes with a rushing touchdown. Holy Name’s offense started the game off sluggishly, not being able to move the ball much in the first half. They opened the second half scoring a touchdown on their first two drives.

In the second half they were able to control the time of possession which ultimately led to the win. Their defense played a good game. In the first half Normandy was able to run the ball effectively, but in the second half they were able to contain Normandy’s rushing attack. Limiting Normandy’s rushing attack was able to keep their offense off the field.

Normandy’s offense played a great game in the first half behind their rushing attack. In the second half Normandy wasn’t able to put together long drives. Their defense played a good game in the first half holding Holy Name to zero points. In the second half Normandy wasn’t able to get the same pressure on Holy Name’s offense which led to Holy Name being able to open the half with two straight touchdowns.

Normandy was having trouble moving the ball on the opening drive. On a third down, Normandy threw an interception that gave Holy Name great field position. After the interception, Normandy held Holy Name to a turnover on downs to get the ball back. Quarterback Elijah Gray drove Normandy down the field using his legs to break multiple big runs. Running Back Andre Jenkins had a nine yard rushing touchdown to take the lead 7-0. Holy Name fumbled the kick, but was able to recover it. Immediately after the fumbled kick, Holy Name threw an interception to give Normandy the ball in Holy Name’s territory.

After a big run by Elijah Gray to get a first down, he ran it in for a nineteen yard touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0. Holy Name responded by driving down the field, with quarterback Andrew Cole breaking a long run to put them inside the five yard line. Normandy held Holy Name to a turnover on downs to get a stop in the red zone. Holy Name held Normandy to a punt to get the ball back on Normandy’s 35 yard line. On third and sixteen, Normandy forced Holy Name’s quarterback to roll out and the pressure caused Holy Name to throw an interception.

Holy Name opened the third quarter by driving down the field with a series of runs. They ended the drive with a two yard rushing touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7. Holy Name held Normandy to a punt, but Normandy was able to pin them inside the ten yard line. Quarterback Andrew Cole threw an 68 yard touchdown to Collin Doskocz to tie the game at 14. (Holy Name’s first two drives of the second half resulted in touchdowns)

Holy Name’s Andrew Cole threw a deep pass to Nicholas Nemeth to put them inside the red zone to open the fourth quarter. After getting them to a fourth down inside the ten yard line, Normandy blocked the field game to keep the score tied at 14. Normandy had a penalty that brought back a 82 yard touchdown which led to Normandy having to punt the ball to Holy Name. A bad punt gave Holy Name the ball on Normandy’s twenty six yard line. Andrew Cole ran it in for a one yard touchdown to take their first lead of the game 21-14 with a minute left in the game.

On the first play of Normandy’s drive Elijah Gray threw a deep pass to Austin Konicki to put them on Holy Name’s thirty one yard line. On fourth down Elijah Gray threw a 31 yard touchdown to Austin Konicki to cut the lead to 21-20. Holy Name stopped Normandy on the two point conversion to win the game. On the onside kick Holy Name fumbled the kick and Normandy recovered the football. With thirteen seconds left in the game, Elijah Gray threw a deep pass to Kairo Dillard, but he was tackled in bounds to give Holy Name the win 21-20.
