Hoban Topps St. Ignatius 35-0

If you are looking for another “Holy War” in Northeast Ohio, you don’t have to look any further than this game tonight at Euclid Community Stadium. The Archbishop Hoban Knights made the long journey up I-77 to Euclid to face the Wildcats of St Ignatius.

This was the 7th meeting of these two storied parochial schools in Northeast Ohio and the series is split right down the middle 3-3.

The Wildcats came into this home game with a record of 1-3 after a tough overtime loss to Austintown Fitch 24-21 last week. The Knights came into the game with a record of 4-0 after an enormous victory over Akron East last week 39-0

The Wildcats won the toss and chose to defer to the second half.

Hoban’s first drive of the game stalled quickly after two short runs and one incomplete pass and they punted the ball over to the Wildcats. The Wildcats first drive was similar in nature with one and two incompletions leading to a punt back to the Knights

Hoban’s third drive resulted in the first score of the game. The Knights moved the ball methodically down the field behind the running of Caleb Jones who had 3 carries on the drive. The drive was finished off by Elbert Hill IV who ran the ball to pay dirt from 19 yards out. Ryan Burns added on the extra point and the scoreboard illuminated a score of Knights 7 Wildcats 0 at the end of the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter Knights QB Tyler Boykin called his own number and ran the ball 9 yards to the end zone and Ryan Burns added the extra point. The score with 11:53 left was Knights 14 Wildcats 0. The ensuing drive by the Wildcats was abruptly halted by Knights DB Tysen Campbell who intercepted the Joshua Papesh pass and ran 27 yards for a touchdown. Ryan Burns added on the extra point and it made the score Knights 21 Wildcats 0 at the end of the first half

The Wildcats were able to move the ball down to the Knights 44-yard line but once again Josh Papesh was picked off by Elbert Hill IV and he ran the ball all the way to the end zone to make it Knights 28 Wildcats 0 at the end of the third quarter.

The Knights were once again able to surgically move the ball down the field against a tired Wildcat defense. The drive culminated with a touchdown by Caleb Jones who scored on a one yard touch down run which showed a final score of Knights 35 Wildcats 0.

My player of the game is Elbert Hill IV. The sophomore WR/DB finished with 3 catches for 41 yards and one interception with a total of 2 touchdowns. Please keep an eye on this upcoming class of 2025 athlete.
