Kent, OH-

There was not a bigger shot hit by any Hoban player this season than the only basket scored tonight by Knight guard Andrew Griffith.  The 3 point basket with 2:21 left in the game was the proverbial dagger in the hearts of the Eagle players, coaches, students and alumni.   Griffith received the pass from a double teamed Will Scott Jr and calmly stepped to the 3 point line and the ball found nothing but the bottom of the net.  The Hoban faithful went bonkers after the shot and you could feel all of the air come out of the Eagles tanks.

Andrew said after the game ,”I am obviously not our #1 option on the offensive end but my teammates have a lot of trust in me at all times.”  He went on to say,”I knew my time would come and it just happened to come with the game on the line and it felt great that the shot went in.”  Hoban’s coach T K Griffith, who also happens to be Andrew’s dad, said. “That was one of the best shots in school history.”

The biggest story of this game has to be Hoban guard Will Scott Jr.  Will finished the game with 27 of their 44 points as well as 6 assists, 5 steals and 7 rebounds.  Will has been amazing all season and had picked his game up here in March with the injury bug hitting Jonas Nichols of late.  Jonas was held to only 1 field goal and two free throws but his work on the defensive end was simply outstanding.

It became very clear early on that points were definitely going to be hard to come by in this game with two teams being two of the top 3 defensive teams in the state.  Eagles forward Max McClellan led them with 11 points including 9 points in the first quarter.

Hoban was eliminated last year in the Regional Final at Copley by the Eagles so the Knights had a lot of revenge on their mind and that drove them to victory. The Knights took a total of 5 charging fouls from the Eagles and three of them were secured by Andrew Griffith.

The final buzzer showed a final score of Hoban 44 St Eds 40

The Hoban Knights move on to the Regional Final and a chance to make the final four teams of Division 1 in the state of Ohio in 2023.  They will play the winner of the Walsh Jesuit/Stow-Munroe Falls game to be played at the MAC center tomorrow night.  The regional final will be played on Friday night

St Eds finished their season at 21-3
