Guardians Fall Apart in Seventh Inning, Fall 6-3 to Texas

After he pitched to form all night long, Cleveland Guardians starter Parker Messick gave up two runs on three hits in the seventh inning, and the Texas Rangers rode that momentum to a 6-3 win.

Moving to 44-41, the Cleveland Guardians will also move to second place in the American League Central Division, as the Chicago White Sox easily handled the Baltimore Orioles.

After the Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, the Guardians responded in the bottom of the fifth. Gabriel Arias homered to deep left-center to tie the game before Chase DeLauter doubled home Austin Hedges to put Cleveland up 2-1.

However, the game was tied once more after Jake Burger delivered again with an RBI single to center field.

In the seventh inning, manager Stephen Vogt left Messick in, as he had only thrown six pitches. A string of hits from rookie Cameron Cauley, Nicky Lopez and Justin Foscue knocked Messick out of the game, and the Rangers led 4-2.

Cleveland pulled within one run on a wild pitch that pulled Brayan Rocchio from third to home, but in the top of the ninth inning, the Rangers scored three runs on three hits to put the game out of reach.

Tuesday’s game, scheduled for a 6:40 p.m. first pitch, will pit Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee against legendary right-hander Jacob DeGrom and the Rangers.
