Gates Mills, Ohio – The Gilmour Lancers wrapped up the regular season with a 17-9 win over the Uniontown Lake Blue Streaks at Weber Stadium Monday night.
Monday night’s game was sponsored by Morgan’s Message, an organization dedicated to shining a light on student-athlete mental health.
Junior Brooke Leedy opened up the scoring with a goal 47 seconds into action, putting Gilmour in front, 1-0. Savannah Horning evened the score at 1 twenty seconds later for Lake. Lily Philips added a goal to put the Blue Streaks in front, 2-1.
The Lancer scored the last four goals of the quarter to take a 5-2 lead. Kaitlyn Larson tied things up at 2 with a goal at the 3:35 mark. Malena Hamdan put the Lancers in front, 3-2, with a goal with 2:33 left, and added a second to increase the margin to 4-2 around 30 seconds later. Leedy added her second with 15 second left in the stanza.
In the second quarter, Leedy scored her third goal to up the margin to 6-2. Following a goal from junior Scarlet Greer, Leedy added a fourth tally to increase the lead to 9-2. Lake scored three of the last four goals of the quarter, coming from Carmen Mangus and Savannah Horning. Katelyn Larsen added a second goal between Horning’s second and third, making the margin 10-5 in favor of the Lancers at the half.
Malena Hamden scored for the third time to increase the lead to 11-5. Following a goal from Evelyn Miller of Lake, Scarlet Greer found the back of the net for the second time, increasing the lead to 12-6. After Lily Philips’ second goal, Riley Boyle scored for Gilmour, making the margin 13-7 after three.
Kaitlyn Larson scored for the third time with 9:43 left, increasing the lead to 14-7. Malena Hamden added a pair of goals, and Brooke Leedy added her fifth in the final stanza as well. Maria Phillips and Sophie Decker each scored for the final margin.
The Lancers finish out the regular season at 12-3. They will take on the winner of Canfield/Boardman next Tuesday, May 19th, to open up OHSAA postseason play.
The Blue Streaks finish the regular season at 10-6. They will take on the winner of Orange/Cardinal Mooney next Monday, May 18th, to open up OHSAA postseason play.
