Gilmour Academy cruises to district semifinals with 69-40 win over Struthers

Gates Mills, Ohio – Gilmour Academy cruised to victory over visiting Struthers, 69-40, in Division II, Northeast 2 NDCL District play Friday night.

Struthers took their only lead of the game with 5:30 left in the first quarter, thanks to a Nick DelGratta triple. From there, the Lancers responded, and caught fire.

Jimmy Lawless hit a trio of triples in the first quarter, and Adisa Molton hit the other. As a result of the hot long range shooting,  Gilmour rocketed out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter.

Chance Laczko and Nick DelGratta each scored to cut the deficit to 19-12 in the second quarter. However, that was the closest Struthers got the rest of the way. Dorjan Flowers later found Zac Titas for a triple to increase the lead to 22-12.

The Lancers added three more triples in the period, and Dorjan Flowers capped the first half with one of his own to beat the buzzer. In all, Gilmour had seven triples in the first half, as they went to the locker room up with a 37-17 lead.

Gilmour would continue to pour it on in the second half. They led by as much as 31 points before the final buzzer sounded.

The Lancers now move to 14-10 thanks to Friday’s win. They will take on Girard on Thursday, March 2nd, in an NDCL District semifinal. Four players had double figures, led by senior forward Brandon Rose with 14. Junior guard Jimmy Lawless and sophomore forward Zac Titas each had 13, and senior guard Adisa Molton had ten.

Struthers finishes their season at 15-9. The Wildcats were led by senior forward Nick DelGratta, who had 15 points.
