North Ridgeville – The Glenville Tarblooders forced 5 turnovers in a 54-7 victory over Elyria Catholic to advance. A great Elyria Catholic team just couldn’t catch a break against a tremendous team that left no room for error, let alone that much. A short field all night long sunk the Panthers in this one.

Glenville quarterback Deonte Rucker threw for 125 yards on 7 of 11 passing with 2 touchdowns.  J’Vaugh Goodson ran for 47 yards on 5 carries while D’Shawntae Jones took off for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns on 9 carries. Shawn Williams caught 3 balls for 64 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The outstanding career of Panther quarterback Brady Cook comes to an end tonight as he was held to 9 of 19 passing for 71 yards and two interceptions. A rough ending to a tremendous career.  Speaking of which, the amazing career of Levi Ellis also came to an end tonight with 84 yards on 22 carries. Wideout Colin Ginley caught 5 balls for 46 yards in the effort.

A failed onside kick gave Glenville incredible starting field position to open the game near midfield.  3 handoffs to D’Shawntae Jones later, it was 6-0 Glenville just 1:10 into the game.  The touchdown carry was from 33 yards out from Jones.

Things went from bad to worse a few minutes later for Elyria Catholic as Arvell Reece picked off a Brady Cook pass and took back 16 yards to the house to extend the lead to 12-0 with 3:37 left to play in the opening quarter.

The quarter of nightmares continued for the Panthers on the next possession as they muffed a snap, and Glenville pounced on it on the Elyria Catholic 37. They would face a fourth and 8 from the 12 to start the second quarter and covert it with a beautiful touchdown pass to Shawn Williams in the corner of the endzone from Deonte Rucker. After a double reverse flick flicker was converted, the score moved to 20-0 Glenville with 11:39 to go in the first half.

Just when it seemed like things couldn’t possibly get any worse for Elyria Catholic, they did, as the Panthers fumbled the kickoff back to Glenville, allowing the Tarblooders to start another position at the Panther 37.  This time it took one play for them to strike on a 37-yard touchdown connection to Jermaine Foster.  This moved the score to 26-0 Glenville with 11:21 to go in the first half.

The Panthers moved the ball at will on their next possession with a steady diet of Levi Ellis.  They mixed in a few crisp Brady Cook passes to Tony Grasso as well to get a first and goal from the Glenville two-yard line. They faced a fourth and goal from the two, when coach Fox called for the Juggernaut formation and Ellis stormed ahead to score. This put the Panthers on the board 26-7 with 4:13 to play in the half. It was a beautiful 19 play drive that soaked up over 5 minutes.

The Panther prowl would continue as they went for and converted an onside kick to get the ball right back near midfield as Brady Cook recovered it. Glenville would stuff the Panthers however and get the ball right back on a turnover on downs. Glenville converted a fourth and long for a 45-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Williams a few moments later to extend the lead to 34-7 only 57 ticks of the clock left in the first half.

The bad luck for Elyria Catholic continued on the opening kickoff of the second half as the Panthers fumbled it away allowing Glenville to take over from the 31.  A few plays later a 5-yard rumble by Jones made it 40-7 and put away the Panthers for good.

A 45-yard Micquan Gravely 45-yard touchdown run on the next Tarblooder possession moved it to 47-7 with a little over 5 minutes to go in the third quarter and then Gravely would score again from 5 yards out to make it 54-7 with 6:51 to go in the game.

The game would end by the same score.
