From Small Town Roads to the “Jesse O”

“It’s do or die,” said Beaver Local High School junior hurdler Teddi Kinsey. With high school athletics winding closer to the off-season, one more battle persists as athletes from across the state of Ohio travel to the capital to compete at the historic Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The 112th annual boys and 45th annual girls OHSAA Track and Field State Championship is scheduled for weekend action May 31st through June 1st, marking the close of the 2019 season with one goal being the prize of the contenders: earn their place upon the podium. As James Monte, a freshman hurdler at Beaver Local High School, addressed; the higher, the better.

“It’s like no other meet that we’ve been to,” says Amanda Ferguson, hurdle coach of the Beaver Local Beavers and four time state qualifier in the OHSAA Track and Field State Championships. “There’s lots of fans, and that’s a big shock, I think. For the ones that have been there before, it makes them hungrier to get on the podium.”
