Tonight, in Parma, Byers field was the site of one of the greatest games in OHSAA History. Clarkson Football North made the 5-hour trip from Canada to stun St. Ignatius on the last play of the game when quarterback Quincy Vaughn hit a 49-yard Hail Mary to win the game! The launch made it 40-40 with no time remaining, and seconds later the extra point made it reality!

The game was insane as it was one gigantic twist and turn after another. It is almost impossible to capture the excitement of what we saw tonight, but we will do our best anyway to try. Vaughn, finished with 5 touchdown passes, 2 interceptions, a fumble and 449 yards on 24 of 40 passing. Yes, you are reading that stat line correctly. Simply, insane.

His main targets were Nathan Demontagnac who finished with 9 catches for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns. Also, Tristian Michaud who had a huge second half when he pulled down 4 key catches for 135 yards. All in crucial situations as the second half play of Michaud turned the tide.

Jaylen Beckford had himself a night as well, pulling down 4 catches for 47 yards and touchdowns. Brayden Misseri wouldn’t be left out either, yanking in two catches and a touchdown for 17 yards.

Griffin Hanna had an up and down night behind center for the Wildcats, but certainly played well enough for them to win. Hanna finished up with 276 yards on 18 of 36 passing, and tossing two touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown, on 6 carries, gaining 28 yards.

His biggest threat tonight was Henry Cook who pulled in 7 catches, 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Also, tight end Jake Lang who compiled 94 yards on 5 catches.

They needed to have big nights as Connor Cmiel was held in check, only catching 3 balls for 39 yards.

Vaughn and North used a very nice two-minute drill to close the half with a touchdown and take a 14-10 lead into the halftime break.

The Wildcats got their 10 points off a 48-yard field goal from Declan Mangan and a 4-yard touchdown run from Hanna. North countered with two touchdown passes from Vaughn to Beckford.

The Wildcats came out of the lockeroom to start the second half on fire. Piling up a quick ten points within the first five minutes on another 47-yard field goal by Mangan, and a 40-yard pitch and catch from Hanna to Cook. This allowed the Wildcats to build their biggest lead of the game at 20-14.

It was then time for Football North to get right back in it. On what can only be described as a joystick play, Omarion Martin scored to make it 20-20. The point after blocked, to keep the score tied.

The Wildcats had a super quick three and out with three consecutive incomplete passes to give the ball right back to North.

Less then 30 second later, North would strike again with the 8-yard touchdown pass from Vaughn to Misseri. This time the point after was good, and North led 27-20.

The wild third quarter was not yet over however as the Wildcats would come right back with a score of their own. This time on a Hanna to Cook curl that ate up 20 yards and tied the game at 27-27. All in all, the third quarter saw 30 combined total points.

The final quarter wasn’t any calmer as Jack Welsch struck midway through on a 3-yard rumble to allow the Wildcats to reclaim the lead. North would answer quickly, less than a minute later on a 14 yard touchdown pass to Demontagnac to tie it back up at 34-34.

With a little over 6 minutes left on the clock, the Wildcats went on a 80 yard drive, eating up the clock until finally, a Welsch touchdown run gave them the lead at 40-34 with less than a minute to go. They would shockingly miss the extra point and the score remained 40-34. This would turn out to be huge.

It left the door open slightly for a miracle to possibly happen. That exact thing would occur as Vaughn launched one last bomb, from the 49-yard line with 3 seconds remaining. As the clock hit 00:00 the ball landed in the corner of the endzone, in the hands of Demontagnac. The ensuing extra point was converted, and history was made!
