Grand Prairie, TX – In a district frontrunner battle the Euless Trinity Trojans went on the road and took down the South Grand Prairie Warriors 24-17. Both sides battled back and forth all night, but a pair of second-half touchdowns helped the Trojans remain undefeated in district play.
The Rundown
Neither team found much success in the first quarter with the defenses driving the quarter exchanging punts and not seeing much to their offense, but the Trojans were able to force a fumble.
The second was a different story with Trinity breaking the tie early in the second quarter after going 60 yards down the field and setting up Jayden Boye for a 31-yard field goal to put the Trojans up 3-0. The Warriors responded with a long drive of their own as their running game drove them down the field. The Trojans though would hold the line forcing the Warriors to settle for an 18-yard field goal from Giovanni Perales to even the game at three. This tie would hold late into the half until an interception by Trinity’s Soane Hola flipping the momentum and giving the offense possession near midfield. Mack Lineweaver would capitalize on the turnover, connecting on four straight passes before finding Carmello Gray in the endzone for an 11-yard touchdown with just 14 seconds remaining in the half to give Trinity a 10-3 lead heading into the locker room.
The momentum would stay in the locker room though as South Grand Prairie came out of the half with the ball and pounded the ground game with Joshua Armendarez, marching 90-yards before he punched into the endzone for a 2-yard touchdown evening the game at 10 a piece. Trinity would punt away the next drive and then recover a Warriors fumble before Lineweaver connected with Kohen Fiefia for a21-yard touchdown pass to put the Trojans back in front 17-10 with just under two minutes to go in the third.
The Trojans wasted no time adding to their lead in the fourth collecting a Warriors punt around midfield and turning it into 7 more points on a 43-yard run from Prince Ngandu. The Warriors continued to battle with their run game getting another score this time being Ryan Goss connecting with Zackary Martinez for a 6-yard touchdown to cut the lead down to one possession. The Warrior defense would make one final stand forcing a punt with under 30-seconds left, but the hands team muffed the punt and that was the end of the game with Trinity recovering the fumble and ending the Warriors last second push, claiming victory 24-17.
