Cleveland Monsters Fall Short 4-3 to Hershey Bears

A 4-3 loss to the Hershey Bears today at Rocket Arena dropped the Monsters to 28-15-5-5 on the season.  They currently sit in third in the North Division but 7th in the Eastern Conference Playoff seedings.

The Monsters opened the doors for the dogs to their second largest crowd of the season as 15,828 fans and 585 K9’s arrived to celebrate Pucks and Paws day at Rocket Arena.-  The event was a smashing success with very little incident.

The game itself saw a little bit of everything with 4 fights, one empty net goal, and the Monsters scoring 3 times in the third period to make things interesting.  Despite it being Jet Greeves night at the Arena, the Monsters actually decided to start their backup Zach Sawchenko who saved 19 of 22 shots as one of the Bears goals was an empty netter late.  As for Bear net minder Hunter Shepard , he saved 21 of 24 shots in the win.

The Monsters will look to bounce back from this one as they travel to Texas to take on the Stars next Friday.  Hershey’s Mike Vecchione scored at 15:23 of the first period as the Bears converted a power play.  The game remained 1-0 Hershey though the second as neither team could connect in the mid period.

The Monsters tied it twice in the third at 1-1 then 2-2, before goals from Hersey in the late third helped them pull away for good.

The Monster goals in third came from

Luca Del Bel Belluz to tie it at 1-1

Joseph LaBate  to tie at 2-2

Del Bel Belluz to make it 4-3, with .02 ticks of the clock remaining.
