Cleveland Heights Wins a Thriller Versus Brunswick

Cleveland Heights beat Brunswick on the road 13 to 10. Going into the game Cleveland Heights were favorites to win this game. The Tigers went into the game with a 2-1 record while the Blue Devils were winless going 0-3 to start the year.

To start off the game Brunswick’s offense looked strong, moving the ball effectively on offense and holding Cleveland Heights on defense. Cleveland Heights’ offense came out stagnant, not being able to put together much offensively. Defensively, Cleveland Heights played well, but a few mistakes have cost them early on. Brunswick was up going into the half, but Cleveland Heights found their stride offensively in the second. Cleveland Heights defense continued to play good defense holding Brunswick to zero points in the second half. The Tigers were able to pull out the win behind player of the game Marquise Davis who had 122 yards on 23 carries and 2 touchdowns.

 

Brunswick started the game off with a nice kick return that took them inside the thirty. Both teams showed up on defense in the first quarter holding teams to zero points. Both teams were able to play sound defensively and made it hard to find openings. Both offenses started off slow and were forced to punt on multiple occasions.

 

Brunswick on the first play of the second quarter broke a huge run to put the Tigers at the three-yard line and being the first team to enter the red zone. Brunswick quarterback Ethan Roksandich took a keeper into the endzone after almost being stripped by Cleveland Heights’ defense. The Blue Devils scored first in the game making it 7 to 0 in the second. Brunswick’s defense kept the momentum rolling, stringing together a series of stops to get the ball back to the offense.

After giving up the touchdown off a long run by Brunswick, the Tigers defense stopped Brunswick to get the ball back with two minutes left in the half. Cleveland Heights’ offense started to open the pass game making a couple of nice plays drive down the field. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they took a shot deep down the field which led to an interception. Roksandich threw a nice pass to Hayden Swarm to get the ball to the eight-yard line to set up a field goal to go into the half leading 10-0.

 

Cleveland Heights opened the second half with a big run from Marquise Davis. Davis started the third quarter with three explosive runs to establish the run game and bring the Tigers into the red zone for the first time in the game. Cleveland Heights got their first touchdown off a Marquise Davis ten-yard touchdown to cut the lead to three, 10-7. Feeding off the momentum of their first touchdown, Cleveland Heights’ defense forced Brunswick into a three and out. A muffed punt led to Brunswick pinning Cleveland Heights at their own five-yard line. Amaar Lakes broke a huge run to get the Tigers into Brunswick territory. Cleveland Heights drove down the field and took the lead 13-10 after a eleven yard rushing touchdown by Marquise Davis. Brunswick muffed the kickoff and Cleveland Heights was able to recover the ball.

Brunswick was able to strip the ball from Cleveland Heights to cause the fumble and get the turnover. Brunswick’s slow-paced offense couldn’t move down the field fast enough to put the Blue Devils in position to score late in the game. The Tigers get a crucial sack to force the turnover on downs and get the ball back up three with a minute left in the game. After a slow start Cleveland Heights, Marquise Davis was able to score two crucial touchdowns in the second half to come away with the win.
