3 Things To Watch For In Final Preseason Game

Cleveland Browns Training Camp News & Notes

Cleveland Browns training camp news & notes

QB Battle

After a week where no one truly separated themselves, coach Monken gave all of the first team reps to Watson on Saturday.  This came after Monken had previously stated that Sanders would be getting all the first team reps on Saturday, clearly something changed.  It was also easily the best the Browns first team offense has looked all season.  Watson shined by going 23 of 24 with 4 touchdowns. One of the TD passes was a 30 plus yard launch to Bond.

The Issue with Saturdays camp

The problem is simple as Todd Monken told the media less then an hour before practice was set to start that Sandes would be getting all the first team reps, clearly something changed.  Monken and the Browns need Watson to pull away from Sanders as that is where there money is at and despite fan backlash, it would prove their move correct back in 2022 if they can get any solid production out of Watson this year.

What this tells me?

Watson needs to play in the pre-season and quite a bit!  He has played briefly in just one pre-season game his entire 4 year run in Cleveland thus far.  While most starters don’t play in the pre-season, this is urgent that Watson gets some chemistry with these receivers and line as he needs to be ready to go week one with at Jacksonville as he hasn’t played with a single one of these wideouts or lineman before, with the sole exception of Jerry Jeudy.

Who is the go to man in the endzone this year?

Denzel Boston remains their main target in the Red-Zone.  The Browns love his size and hands and Boston seems to be the guy they can count on to go up in the corner of the endzone and high point the ball if need be.  Look for Boston to lead the team in redzone targets and hopefully touches this season through the air.

Tempers Flared on Saturday

This is standard training camp fun as you can count on this type of thing every single year.  This time around it was Spencer Fano, the number one pick and Jared Verse the man seen to replace Myles Garrett getting into the scrap with Verse easily getting the best of it.

This is no shock, as next to Watson, these two easily have the most pressure on them heading into the regular season.

Injuries and additions

With Kendrick Green going down, the Browns made an addition to bring in Jack Conley to provide further depth to that O-Line which has been snake bit the last few seasons.

They also signed CB Jeadyn Lukus to beef up the secondary depth as well, which is another area they have been by injuries the last few years as well.

The Browns are also looking at Wide Receiver free agents Romello Brinson, Stephon Johnson and Ben Patterson, but I doubt any of them will have an immediate impact if signed.
