Decision One – Roger Goodell overruling the decision that Deshaun Watson would only miss the first 6 games of the season.
After months of debate with a independent arbitrator, Goodell showed his ego once again and pretty much whatever he wanted anyways by moving the suspension to 11 games, and ending any chance the Browns had at consistently good quarterback play.
To his credit, Jacoby Brissett hasn’t been terrible this season, but he is far from what they expect Deshaun Watson to be. At most, Brissett could win them 3 or 4 games, and that is exactly where the Browns are after 10 games played with one more to go. Crazy enough, he just had his best game of the season Week 10 versus a great Buffalo defense with 300 plus passing yards and 3 touchdown passes.
On the year he has over 2400 yards passing with 11 touchdowns and only 5 picks. Not bad, but not the kind of numbers and decision making you need from your top quarterback. 3 of those 5 picks, cost them big and happened late in games when they absolutely couldn’t.
The 5 games the Browns get Watson back for, will be a small sample of what they can expect in 2023, despite the rust. If Watson doesn’t ball out in three of those games, it is going to be a long offseason of doubt and second guessing.
