I don’t think anybody expected the star-studded Cleveland Browns team to start the season 2-6 through the first nine weeks of the season, but here we are. This week is the start of three consecutive home games for the Browns, who are currently on a four-game losing streak.

The Bills head into week ten with an impressive 6-2 record after beating up on rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins last week. The Browns will be without defensive end Olivier Vernon and safety/slot corner Eric Murray on the defensive side of the ball with Kareem Hunt making his season debut after serving an eight-game suspension to start the season.

There’s still hope for a second half turnaround with the struggling Browns team, but it all starts this week against one of the best defenses in the league. With that being said, here are three keys to victory for week ten against the Bills.

  1. Baker Mayfield has to have a mistake-free performance

The Bills boast one of the league’s top passing defenses. In fact, Buffalo is one of three teams to allow under 200 passing yards per game and has given up just five passing touchdowns this season, second-best in the NFL.

Furthermore, Buffalo’s stout defense also ranks top five in completion percentage, yards per attempt and passer rating as well. With Baker Mayfield struggling to build off a record-breaking rookie season, this needs to be one of his best games of the year in order to stay within striking distance Sunday afternoon.

The Bills defense has not given up multiple passing touchdowns in 12 straight games and, as we all might know, Mayfield has yet to throw multiple touchdown passes in a game this season. His accuracy has also been a problem in 2019 as he is completing just 58 percent of his passes and holds a total quarterback rating of just 71.3.

There is very little margin of error for Mayfield and the Browns passing attack Sunday afternoon. The team’s last win came against the Ravens in week four, when Mayfield was consistent and efficient throwing the ball. Improvements must be shown on all fronts against the Bills.

2. Capitalize on red zone opportunities

One main area of concern on the offensive side of the ball is the lack of red zone touchdowns. After scoring a touchdown on more than 60 percent of red zone trips a year ago, the Browns are now down to a 46 percent touchdown rate this season, good for 25th in the league.

This is coming off a game where the team scored just one touchdown in five red zone trips, including four field goals in the second quarter. As we’ve come to know, turning those opportunities into touchdowns can be a deciding factor in the game and that’s where Cleveland struggles most at really moving the ball.

The Browns have seen more red zone opportunities result in touchdowns when playing at home this season. With the team still searching for its first home win, this is another task the Browns will have to capitalize on in order to end the losing streak.

3. Must limit up-and-coming rookie running back Devin Singletary

Devin Singletary is coming off his best rushing game as a pro, logging 20 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown against the Redskins. The rookie has battled through injuries this season, but has come away with 267 yards rushing on just 40 carries with two touchdowns.

As we saw last week in Denver, the Browns still have a problem with tackling and can be in for another long day if the defense can’t contain the looks of Frank Gore and Singletary in the backfield. The Cleveland defense must do its part to limit Buffalo’s big-play ability through the looks of Josh Allen extended plays with his rushing ability and Singletary’s ability to turn short passes into big gains through the air.
