Cleveland Baseball Team Named After Guardians of Transportation

The Cleveland sports franchise decided their new and upcoming name for its Major League Baseball Team. Formally known as the Cleveland Indians, the MLB team will go by the Cleveland Guardians, starting as early as the upcoming season.

Cleveland, Ohio is the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Museum of Art and many other historical places. Cleveland contains a lot of history and architecture, that including the Hope Memorial Bridge. The Cleveland baseball team named themselves the “Guardians” after the 43-foot-tall statues that are alongside the Hope Memorial Bridge.

The Guardians of Transportation have been in Cleveland since 1932 and are an important part of Cleveland and its roots. The Guardians symbolize different vehicles, which each of the statues hold in their hands representing the history of ground transportation.

Tom Hanks, a fan favorite, and beloved actor announced the name change via social media. Hanks narrated the important history behind the change, “…You see there’s always been Cleveland, that’s the best part of our name and now it’s time to unite as one family, one community. To build the next era for this team and this city. To keep watch and guard what makes this game the greatest. To come together and welcome all who want to join us. We are loyal, proud and resilient. We protect what we’ve earned and always defend it. Together we stand with all who understand what it means to be born and built form the Land because this is a city we love and a game we believe in and together we are all Cleveland Guardians. “

The new logo for the Cleveland Guardians is a baseball with two G’s on either side with wings. The wings on the logo are the same wings that are on the Guardians of Transportation.
