Chagrin Falls pulls away from Orange, 50-29, thanks to strong defensive effort

Chagrin Falls, Ohio – Thanks to an outstanding defensive effort, the Chagrin Falls Tigers defeated Orange, 50-29, in a CVC Chagrin conference tilt Wednesday night.

The Lions got off and running in the first quarter. Trevor Moss knocked down a couple of treys from long range, and Evan Friedman had a putback.

Orange led 12-8 at the end of the first, but Chagrin Falls roared back in the second quarter.

Junior guard Max Crandall connected from long range, and Henry Newell added a layup. These buckets gave Chagrin Falls a lead it would not relinquish.

Later in the first half, junior guard Henry Barr knocked down a three to increase the Tiger lead to 19-15. Not too long after, Crandall pulled off an impressive behind-the-back pass in transition, finding Owen Pope for a jumper to end the first half.

Chagrin Falls led 21-15 going into the halftime break.

From there, the Tigers went on a 9-2 run to increase their lead to 30-17. They got baskets from Henry Newell and James Kosmides.

Trevor Moss knocked down a three to stop the Tigers’ run late in the third, and Evan Friedman would knock down one of his own not too long after.

The Lions would trim their deficit to 32-23 at the end of the third quarter, but could get no closer.

In the fourth quarter, the Tigers would go on a 13-0 run.

Max Crandall added a pair of buckets, including a transition layup, and Nick Calabrese added a three to aid the scoring run. Crandall had nine points Wednesday night. Newell (Senior) and Kosmides (Junior) each added a bucket in the fourth quarter as well. They had ten points each for the Tigers.

The scoring run would push the lead to 45-23 and effectively seal the game for the Tigers. A Dominic Anekwe layup ended Orange’s scoring drought with 2:48 remaining in the ball game.

Orange senior forward Trevor Moss led all scorers with 11 points. Sophomore forward Dominic Anekwe added ten points for the Lions.

Chagrin Falls improves to 3-2 overall (3-1 CVC Chagrin). They host Ashtabula Lakeside Saturday evening.

Orange drops to 2-3 overall (1-3 CVC Chagrin). They travel to Lake Catholic next Tuesday for a non-conference showdown.
