Toledo, OH – Central Catholic High School Football (11-1) beat Avon Lake (9-3) 21-0 at Gallagher Stadium on Friday.

These two teams saw each other in 2020, as Avon Lake Shoremen defeated the Central Catholic Fighting Irish in the playoffs with a finish of 16-14. However, this season the Fighting Irish came back with a dominant performance in the 4th quarter to go on for another week.

In Central Catholic’s 19th-straight playoff appearance under Head Coach Greg Dempsey, the Scarlet and Gray continue to show their strength week in and week out in all three phases of the game.

QUARTER 1
Possession would go back and forth three times as both teams forced defensive turnovers.

QUARTER 2
Avon Lake would try to get on the board first, moving the chains all the way to the redzone. But, Central Catholic’s defense responded, stumping Shoreman to keep the score 0-0 at the half.

QUARTER 3
After 36 minutes of play, Central Catholic and Avon Lake failed to put up any points on the scoreboard.

QUARTER 4
The Fighting Irish came out firing in the 4th quarter as the Scarlet and Gray drove 55-yards to the endzone, finishing with a 5-yard touchdown run by senior running back Chris Edmonds.

One minute later, after Shoreman’s attempt to punt, junior defensive back Marvon Greenlee blocked and recovered the ball in the endzone for another touchdown.

Then, on Avon Lake’s first play of their possession, senior defensive back Braden Awls intercepted senior quarterback Jeremy Dzik’s pass.

Edmonds would capitalize on the opportunity, plowing through the endzone for a 11-yard touchdown run.

The No. 3 seed eliminates the No. 6 seed, with a shutout 2nd half performance.

Junior Receiver would lead the way for the Fighting Irish, contributing a huge presence on defense. With interceptions, sacks and a blocked punt securing the ball in the endzone for a touchdown.

Central Catholic benefited off of two touchdown runs by senior running back Chris Edmonds, and a muffed punt by junior defensive back Marvon Greenlee.
