Centennial Fights Hard for A 33-14 Victory Over The Colony

First Half

The Centennial Spartans, coming into this game, were 3-0 and looking to keep the streak alive, and that they did. The Colony was just 1-2 and looking to make that an even record but plagued by injuries and penalties, they couldn’t get it done.

The Colony Cougars got the ball first but only managed a 6-yard gain, with five coming from a penalty before they had to punt it away.

Centennial started it off strong with a 30-yard carry by Keyshaun Tucker, who would prove instrumental in the win. However, soon after the great carry by Tucker, there were fumbles in back-to-back plays by Centennial, which led to a turnover on downs.

The Cougars failed to capitalize on Centennial’s mistakes and ended up giving the ball right back to them, allowing Centennial to throw a 26-yard pass caught by Damien Long and then followed up by a 24-yard carry by Darrius Yanez, putting Centennial within 2 yards of a touchdown. Quarterback Iverson Moore would crash through for the touchdown, followed up by a successful PAT, putting the score at 0-7 Centennial with 1:23 left in the first quarter.

The Colony would strike back with a 45-yard passing touchdown to Xavier Green and a successful PAT, ending the quarter at 7-7.

The second quarter was where Centennial started to pull away. Keyshaun Tucker had a 1-yard carry for a touchdown, leading to Centennial attempting a 2-point attempt but ending in an incomplete pass. The Colony tried to answer back with a 34-yard carry by Harold Gibson but ultimately led to another turnover on downs.

Centennial had one last drive in the second quarter with a 39-yard pass completed by Damien Long, which put them in range for kicker Truitt Bosher to knock down a 30-yard field goal, ending the half at 7-16 in favor of Centennial.

Second Half

The third quarter was defined by penalties and injuries and was the decisive quarter in this game. Every other play left a man or flag down on the field, much to the dismay of the fans, players, and coaches.

Centennial got the ball at the half. Keyshaun Tucker rushed for 22 yards and then an additional 18 yards before injuring his leg and sitting out the rest of the quarter. However, thanks to his efforts, the Spartans got another field goal made by Bosher.

The Colony answered back with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Chase Glover. And put the score at 14-19.

The Cougars would get another chance when they recovered a fumble on the Spartan’s own 20-yard line; however, their drive would end in another fumble being collected by the Spartans.

At the end of the quarter, The Colony would catch an interception but lead to nothing, ending the quarter at 14-19.

The fourth quarter would lead off by a Keyshaun Tucker 4-yard rushing touchdown and PAT, putting the score to 14-26.

The Colony would have no answer and instead allowed a 72-yard carry by Keyshaun Tucker, resulting in a touchdown and putting the nail in this game’s coffin, putting the final score at Centennial 33 to The Colony’s 14.

The player of the game for Centennial undoubtedly goes to Keyshaun Tucker, putting up 239 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 carries.

The player of the game for The Colony would go to Carson Cox, who threw 7-18 on 138 yards and 2 touchdowns.
