OLMSTED FALLS, OH – In a competitive girls lacrosse matchup, the Brunswick Blue Devils used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs, securing the 11-8 win.
The game opened with both teams locked in defensively, as scoring opportunities were hard to come by early on. Possessions were limited, and both sides did a strong job applying pressure and forcing tough shots. Both teams scored their first goals around the same time, but Olmsted Falls answered late in the quarter with another goal to take a 2-1 lead. The opening quarter set the tone for a physical and competitive matchup.
The second quarter remained tightly contested, with both teams trading goals throughout. Brunswick managed to get the score closer, but Olmsted Falls held on to a 4-3 lead heading into halftime. The first half was a defensive battle, setting up for a great second half.
Coming out of halftime, the intensity picked up in the third quarter. Brunswick began to find its rhythm offensively, putting together a strong stretch. Despite all the scoring from Brunswick, the Bulldogs put together scoring of their own, carrying an 8-7 advantage into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Brunswick took control of the game. The Blue Devils capitalized on key possessions and were able to extend their lead, finishing with an 11-8 win. Their ability to execute late and convert scoring chances proved to be the difference in the final minutes.
Brunswick was led by #18 Ryleigh Vlcek, who delivered an outstanding performance with four goals, scoring at key moments throughout the game. She was tonight’s player of the game. #2 Brooke Gellhar also made a major impact, contributing four goals of her own and helping lead the second-half offensive surge. #15 Lindsey Roman added two goals, including a late score that helped seal the win for the Blue Devils.
For Olmsted Falls, several players stepped up in the loss. #21 Sienna Varga led the way with a strong offensive showing, finding the net a total of three times. #2 Sofia Caso added two goals and an assist, keeping the Bulldogs in a close game.
In the end, Brunswick’s strong finish and ability to execute and score late in the fourth quarter made the difference. While Olmsted Falls stayed competitive and kept the game close through three quarters, the Blue Devils’ late-game push secured the victory.
