In the game of football, some things never change. Bad coaching and turnovers result in losing. Today the (2-4) Browns found that out first hand in a devasting 32-28 loss to the (5-1) Seattle Seahawks.
The team from the Pacific Northwest is already good enough without the turnovers and shaky play calling, but lord knows they will take it!
After jumping out to a 20-6 lead, the Browns decided to shoot themselves in the foot every chance they got. They scored touchdowns on their first three possessions thanks once again to outstanding play from Nick Chubb.
That however is when the doors and wheels came off the car. Austin Seibert missed his second extra point at the stadium this season, and everything was downhill from there.
Here are a few things that jumped out to me.
The Seahawks scored in every quarter:
Sustained offense and a methodical run first approach worked for consistent scoring.
The Browns offense actually played pretty good with the exception of the turnovers:
It may seem crazy, but the Browns weren’t that bad today. They ran for 3 touchdowns, and over 150 total rushing yards. Chubb was incredible again with 2 touchdowns and 122 yards on only 20 carries.
Turnovers killed 3 of 4 scoring drives:
There is no hiding this one, it’s pretty clear that 3 of the 4 turnovers killed drives that would have put up at least 3 points each.
At the very least, let’s say you get field goals on those 3 drives, and kick a field goal at the goal line like they should have. That would be 12 extra points and a 40-32 victory.
The Browns have no secondary right now:
I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on TV ( a dated reference kids, ask your parents about it), but even I can tell you that something is far worse with the hamstrings of Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward then we know about. I don’t care what anyone says, you don’t miss 4 games with a sore hamstring. Something is up!
OBJ got the ball:
OBJ caught 6 passes for 101 yards but could not find the endzone once again today. Still a good sign that he is getting more involved in the attack. He was targeted 11 times.
Baker Mayfield has 5 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions through 6 games:
The franchise QB is averaging nearly 2 picks a game, and less than a touchdown a game. That pretty much tells you all you need to know right there.
The biggest problems facing this team haven’t changed:
The biggest reason for the poor start remains turnovers, penalties, poor line play, horrendous play calling and injuries. They are now 2-4 on the season and 0-3 at home.
