Western Michigan delivered one of its best offensive nights of the season Tuesday, rallying late and riding hot shooting to an 88-79 road victory over the Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team at the Stroh Center.
The teams traded momentum throughout a closely contested first half, with neither side able to create much separation before the break. Bowling Green’s pace and ball movement kept the game tight, while Western Michigan counted on steady scoring inside and timely perimeter shots.
After a tight first 20 minutes, WMU outpaced BGSU in the second half, pulling away with a flurry of baskets down the stretch.
The Broncos shot especially well from three and the free-throw line late, swinging momentum and keeping the Falcons from mounting a comeback. Western Michigan used its efficiency to stretch the lead during key possessions, answering each of Bowling Green’s runs with baskets of its own.
Bowling Green fought back hard and stayed competitive throughout, but Western Michigan’s efficiency in the final minutes proved decisive. The Falcons trimmed the deficit to single digits in the closing minutes but were unable to generate the defensive stops needed to close the gap further.
The Broncos capitalized on its opportunities at the foul line and limited second chances, turning several stops into transition points that helped secure the road win. Western’s composure late stood out as Bowling Green was forced to foul and rush possessions.
The loss leaves the Falcons needing a strong finish to preserve postseason hopes, while Western Michigan’s signature road win injects new energy into its final MAC slate.
Bowling Green will continue conference play later this week, while the Broncos return home with momentum as the regular season comes to a conclusion.
